As you already know, Left 4 Dead 2 was announced earlier today. Along with the announcment came the first look at the game which reveals that Left 4 Dead 2 takes place in New Orleans. A new group of survivors are taking on the infected horde and this time they'll be able to use melee weapons.
There's plenty of new stuff in L4D 2 and you can check out more info on the game over on the announcment post. All in all, Left 4 Dead 2 is looking pretty hot!
Be sure to check out PC Gamer and Official Xbox Magazin as they'll have cover stories on Left 4 Dead 2 this month.

Cannot wait for this one to drop. Also, loving the redneck farmer tank :D

Not mentoned there is that the director will also open up different ways through the level sometimes and also the weather, and some melee weapons include an axe and a frying pan.

Fignuts 06-01-2009 04:34 PM

Sounds cool, but so soon?

Couldn't they have just released more dlc for the time being, and focus more on, oh I don't know, half-life god damn episode fucking 3?!

#BROKEN Hasney 06-01-2009 04:36 PM

[Update: MaximumPC has more info. Some highlights include new survivors names are Nick, Ellis, Rochelle and Coach. Mission will happen in the daylight, Witch acts differently in daytime, stronger narrative, new boss infected called The Charger, one new game mode and more.]

And yeah Figgy, you're right about it being soon to announce it, but it could be a year off yet. Me? I'm hoping for this year though still, the sooner the better :D

D Mac 06-01-2009 04:37 PM

Gonna buy the original soon. Used of course.

Xero 06-01-2009 04:37 PM

Source engine? Or no?

Don't care really, looking forward to the PC version.

The team was allowed to choose its next project and it chose Left 4 Dead 2.

Also it's out on Nov. 17

Fignuts 06-01-2009 04:39 PM

Well it is valve, so we will probably get the first screen shots in 2011.

Kalyx triaD 06-01-2009 04:40 PM

This should be fun. Makes me wanna dive into the first one again.

WOOO, NOV 17th.

Also, it looks like source in the video IGN have up, but it's not specific.

If the Charger also grabs hold of a survivor, he pile drives them into the ground repeatedly; the only way for the survivor to escape is for someone to help him. The Charger is not as tough as a tank, but he can take some damage. And while he's fast, he's not as maneuverable, so you can dodge him like a bullfighter dodging a bull. On a personal note, I can't tell you how many times the Charger caught me unaware from behind; one moment I was standing my ground and mowing down zombies and the next I was flying through the air. When a teammate yells out a Charger warning your head needs to be on a swivel. Then there are the hazmat zombies. These aren't special zombies; they're just guys who were in hazmat suits when they were infected. The thing is, though, they're immune to fire and incendiary weapons (more on that in a bit).

OUCH :'(

Kalyx triaD 06-01-2009 04:43 PM

Hazmat Zombies. Deliciously ironic.

RoXer 06-01-2009 06:08 PM

I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.

It's hard to overstate my staisfaction.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-01-2009 06:10 PM

It would be awesome if it turned out that GLaDOS was the director :shifty:

RoXer 06-01-2009 06:10 PM

You know what, fuck it. Just combine all of them. There were elements taken from each to the other anyway so let's just create a big giant supgame for every one, okay Valve?

Portal Fortress: Episode 3 for Dead

Hanso Amore 06-02-2009 02:11 PM

Anyone else think this is Left 4 Dead: House of Pain?

Kalyx triaD 06-02-2009 02:40 PM

Nope.

G 06-02-2009 03:04 PM

Tyler Perry's House of Payne

UmbrellaCorporation 06-02-2009 03:13 PM

New Orleans?

Seemingly more interesting characters?

Melee weapons?

I'm sold. I don't consider myself a Valve fanboy, and while I like the Orange Box, Half Life, TF2, all the like, I can't see why a lot of people consider it to be the second coming of Christ. I personally feel that Halo is infinitely better than Half Life, but I'm not saying that I feel Half Life is a bad series by any stretch of the imagination. That all aside, L4D was great. I have high hopes for this one too.

Loved the first L4D, aside from a few minor complaints/worries that Valve wouldn't get their fingers out of their asses (as usual), so I'm looking forward to this one. I wonder if it's actually more like a story this time around as opposed to movie scenarios, though.

:y::y::y::y:

"Infinitely" is pushing it but we are on the same page, almost the same paragraph.

Fignuts 06-02-2009 03:19 PM

I respectfully disagree.

Kalyx triaD 06-02-2009 03:24 PM

Noted.

The Optimist 06-02-2009 03:34 PM

Yeah, I'm pissed that they're dumping Left 4 Dead to sequel up. Butt. . . all the good stuff is good.

And Carl Winslow will be a fun character.

Nope.

Just the one.

Wehttam 06-06-2009 11:37 AM

there are rumors that they will put all the l4d maps on this game as well.

i don't think it's too early for this game, though. i think they will make l4d2 like tf2 in that it will be updated a lot and add new features every few months or so.

they already announced 4 modes: survival, campagin, versus, and a secret one. they also said they have 2 or 3 more modes planned out for dlc already. sweet.

this game really needs LOUIS though.

Kalyx triaD 06-06-2009 06:35 PM

There's a petition against L4D2 at the official forums. lol They cite these issues:

• Significant content for L4D1 was promised, and never delivered
• Valve put little faith in L4D1 since they almost certainly started working on L4D2 right after release
• The fact that L4D2 is nearly identical to L4D1 will decimate the community for both games
• The announced date is not nearly enough time to polish content or make significant gameplay changes
• The new character designs seem bland and unappealing so far
• L4D2 is too bright to fit in with L4D1's visual aesthetic
• The fiddle-based horde music is extremely disliked, though the differently orchestrated music is otherwise welcome
• L4D2's release will result in a drop in quality and frequency for L4D1 content, even compared to before
• The community has lost faith in Valve's former reputation for commitment to their games post-release

lol Gay.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-06-2009 06:40 PM

Hold up, gonna go start a petition at EA's forums about Madden '10

brb

Wehttam 06-06-2009 06:42 PM

i may left4dead tonight in honor of that lame petition

#BROKEN Hasney 06-06-2009 06:48 PM

For serious though, it's damned if they do or damned if they don't. If hands-on reports are to be believed, it feels the same but with a lot improved, more than a simple patch or even DLC usually provides and Valve have even said that there was a lot, in their opinion, unfinished about L4D and because Valve employees can choose their own project, they thought making L4D was so fun they're making a sequel.

Considering, like all their games, it's using Source and it is very based on the original L4D a year is plenty enough to fix, code and polish the original.

They've also said that because this is the fixed version, there will be a lot more coming out for this one compared to the original. If that's the case, brilliant. If it becomes a yearly thing (and I don't think Valve will do that) then I think it will eventually ruin sales and won't hold up.

When have we ever seen a year between Valve sequels? I, for one, am stoked that we're getting all-new stuff this quick.

UmbrellaCorporation 06-06-2009 10:15 PM

LOL, I am sorry, but the characters in L4D2 seem MUCH more interesting to me personally.

Will miss Louis though.

Kalyx triaD 06-06-2009 10:18 PM

Louis reminds me too much of myself.

Boomer 06-06-2009 10:22 PM
