What I wish they would have done with The Great American Bash

Besides keeping the old fucking title. I like it when PPVs have got a theme or PPV-specific stipulations. It makes those PPVs stand out, and seem more special in the grander scheme of things.

I always thought it would be cool if the WWE gave the United States Champion a World Title shot at The Great American Bash. It just seems fitting, given the name of the PPV, and the history of both the event and the United States Title. They could even expand things to the IC Title and the other World Title match.

For example, this year we could have gotten Randy Orton vs. MVP for the WWE Title, and Edge vs. Rey Mysterio for the IC Title. The first match is quite fresh, and a lot of fun, and the second was just done on SmackDown!, but was fucking good.

it makes sense

The theme of The Bash is Juan buys MinistryChick77 a pretzel, water, and a to be determined shirt.

Xero 06-06-2009 02:24 PM

I am excited to find out what said shirt is.

kareru 06-06-2009 02:46 PM

i wish they would have a triple cage match, i mean the wwe own all the wcw rights so that means they own the triple cage, why not use it, plus many of the wwe fans have never seen a triple cage match.

Xero 06-06-2009 02:48 PM

Even WWE realizes how stupid that match was.

What better way to pay homage to a shitty movie than to turn it into a shitty match?

Xero 06-06-2009 02:50 PM

Speaking of which, FOUR POST MASSACRE!

owenbrown 06-06-2009 02:52 PM

lol

That movie was such a good idea with such...not...effort. *sigh* I still love Oliver Platt, tho.

More on topic, I think every ppv should have a unique theme, but Champ vs. Champ seems a bit much.

Wehttam 06-06-2009 03:27 PM

I disagree.

A few PPVs with themes are fine. I love Night of Champions, and the Survivor Series and Royal Rumble are always amazing. But I don't want them to go gimmick-happy. The last PPV was cool because there wasn't a theme, it was just a bunch of 1-on-1 matches and it was refreshing. That makes this PPV special in a sense, and gimmicking up EVERY ppv will make it lose whatever specialness it has. I would only add maybe 1 more gimmick PPV. Of course it would be KOTR.

I would bring back King of the Ring, too. I do agree that some PPVs don't need themes, but some of them could really use the boost. Here's how I would do things:

Royal Rumble: The Rumble Match (obviously)
No Way Out: No gimmicks, it can fly off WrestleMania and the Rumble
WrestleMania: No gimmicks, it's fucking WrestleMania
Backlash: No gimmicks, but not as many Mania rematches
Judgment Day: No gimmicks
King of the Ring: The KOR Tournament, obviously
The Great American Bash: Secondary champions step up
Summerslam: Doesn't need a theme, but I wouldn't mind a competitive RAW vs. SmackDown! vs. ECW theme one year
Breaking Point: Submission only matches
Halloween Havoc: No gimmicks, just them Halloween theme
Survivor Series: Classic Survivor Series matches
Armageddon: Scramble Matches

No Way Out = Elimination Chamber?

I personally don't like the Elimination Chamber stips for No Way Out. I prefer it when the Chamber comes out of storylines, and is a neccessity to resolve a World Championship issue. I think that having the match for the sake of having the match cheapens it. Also, I don't like it happening so soon after the Royal Rumble. Why compete in the Rumble when a third of those men will get the opportunity to compete in Elimination Chambers to earn a spot at WrestleMania?

XL 06-08-2009 06:22 PM

In all honesty I'm not a fan of these gimmicked PPVs.

Like Noid says, I don't like the way they use the Elimination Chambers for NWO, but that also goes for Night of Champions, Extreme Rules, Breaking Point (if it does end up being a submission PPV), etc.

I'd down for Rumble, Survivor Series and KotR if they were to bring that back but that's my limit really.

Funny how TNA were slaughtered for Lockdown but WWE seem to be running with the ball on this.
