It will fucking suck. Technology is still not at a point where voice patterns are recognized properly. Why do you think the spoken word bits in Rock Band work even if you spit unintelligible garbage?

Yeah, you can't judge 'rap'. RB/GH judges pitch, how will this work? I do like the community ideas they got lined up. Could put some lyricists on the map. I'll pass, though.

because the original engine had flaws and it was just easier to do it this way than overhaul?

That's really not so much the fault of the technology and more the people who set up a major platform with broken detection.
