Tim Sylvia loses in 8 seconds.

Yeah. Ray Mercer KO'd him with his first punch. Sylvia apparently weighed 313 for the fight. It's on youtube if you have a spare 15 seconds.

I don't think an Arlovski/Sylvia fight would be quite the draw it once was.

What does Fedor do to his opponents...

There goes his career.

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-14-2009 04:49 PM

lol it is some seriously shitty luck though, I mean obviously if Mercer connected flush he was gonna go down... and it happened 8 seconds in. If they did the fight again obviously Sylvia wouldn't get caught like that.

RP 06-14-2009 04:54 PM

lol he fell over like a tree

Are you serious?

Nearly everyone knew it was gonna go down EXACTLY like it did. Even Tim's friend and training buddy Jens Pulver thought he was mental doing this and thought he'd get killed in seconds.

Well Robert pardon me, I don't have inside links into Tim's training camp :p

To the outside MMA fan, you'd figure Tim Sylvia a former world champ, wouldn't have problems with an MMA n00b. :p

Agreed, Randy Couture totally out classed him in the boxing department, no way Mercer wasn't going to eat him alive.

to be fair this was the guy that was choked out by kimbo slice. so people thinking tim had an advantage are not too crazy.

this is one of the worst things to happen for MMA though. Now boxing people are going to be going nuts.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 06-15-2009 07:18 AM

Tim weighed in at 311 pounds for the fight.

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-15-2009 09:46 AM

Why would he try stand with a former heavyweight boxing champ?

Jens Pulver was on a ton of websites saying what he did ;)

And Tim Sylvia shouldn't have problems with anyone new to MMA. Only problem is this wasn't an MMA fight. It was a boxing fight in a cage (don't ask how this is possible). In a boxing fight, Tim "Jaw of Glass" Sylvia is dead meat.

Reavant 06-15-2009 02:51 PM

No this was changed to a mma fight.

Reavant 06-15-2009 02:52 PM

It was originally slated as a boxing fight, but a couple weeks ago it was changed.

His bout with Mercer (1-0), originally booked as a six-round boxing match, was changed to an MMA-rules fight earlier in the week.

He crushes them. he breaks their spirits. He shows them exactly what they are in comparison to him. And they, in acknowledgement of his pure awesomeness, are never the same.

Only because of the various legal rules. This was like Tommy Morrison fighting an MMA fight because he can't box now. Mercer and Sylvia agreed to only stand for the fight.

HeartBreakMan2k 06-15-2009 03:18 PM

Or just let Rob beat me by a whole like... 12 seconds to the post.

McLegend 06-15-2009 03:26 PM

Did Sylvia at least get a good pay day for it? Otherwise agreeing to this fight makes no sense.

that's why Mercer went down on top of him?

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-15-2009 04:10 PM

Yeah... well if you wanna stand with a former pro boxing heavyweight champ wearing those gloves, you're a dumbfuck.

thats funny because the article also says sylvia threw a leg kick and mercer followed him to the ground

Rob 06-15-2009 05:52 PM

It didn't look like Sylvia threw anything to me. Maybe he did.

All I'm saying was what was said before the show. I'll find exactly what I read in a sec.

Rob 06-15-2009 05:58 PM

"--The Association of Boxing Commissions attempted to shut down Saturday night's Tim Sylvia vs. Ray Mercer boxing match in a cage because, well, it's in a cage and because it is illegal to hold boxing matches in the U.S. without being regulated. Since it was in Alabama, which has no commission, they used the River Cree Sports Commission out of Edmonton as the regulatory body. However, it is illegal to use a regulatory body that is not American for a fight on U.S. soil. They also questioned John McCarthy as referee because he has no sanctioning to referee a boxing match. However, there is a loophole in the law in that MMA is not under the same laws, and unregulated MMA takes place in Alabama all the time. So, the fight is now an MMA match, presumably with Sylvia having a gentleman's agreement to only box. Told ya this stuff was going to wind up sleazy as hell. "

Rob 06-15-2009 05:59 PM

I actually just saw a ton of Monte Cox quotes saying they changed everything to a MMA fight and Sylvia would have done a boxing match in return later if he won.

I was wrong.

Reavant 06-15-2009 07:58 PM

to be fair its not like sylvia has ever gone to the ground in a fight anyway

Rob 06-15-2009 08:00 PM

He has been to the ground plenty of times. Usually after a punch though ;)

Reavant 06-15-2009 08:08 PM

god i cant wait for lou dibella to run his mouth now
