***CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND*** - Street Fighter IV Tournament

So I've decided to get the ball rolling with this thing. I'll start the first round in couple of weeks once I get your guys' feedback on a few things. Things being:

- Should it be double elimination?

It would suck to have to face Kalyx in the first round making it almost pointless to practice and take it seriously. Making it double elimination would be more fun for the mid-level experienced players. Even the NEWBS would enjoy the rule.

- Best of 7? Best of 9?

It'll be 3 round matches, 99 time limit, higher seed on the RIGHT side. But should it be best of 7 or 9? Which brings me to my next point...

- 4 character MINIMUM

This rule isn't debatable in my book. You'll have to be well-versed in more than 1 character. If it was best of 9 it would make for interesting strategies/matchups. More of a mind game. Save your best for last? Start off with your best? Who knows.

*Edit* Not sure if I was clear. If we do best of 7, then it is possible to win using only your top 2 characters. You can sweep the other guy 4-0 by using your top two characters. You don't have to play the first 4 matches with 4 seperate characters. Just know that if you use your top 2 characters in the first 4 rounds, you may be at a disadvantage for the last 3 if you're not strong with your other characters. Like I said, ALL IN THE MATCHUPS

- No Sagat

I was thinking about this and I dunno. For the experienced players, it probably wouldn't be a problem getting around him. For the mid-level guys it might be. I dunno. Need feedback on that.

QUICK TIPS:

- Definitely get in as much practice as you can. I will set this up in 2 weeks. Maybe even 1 depending on how quick this goes.

- DEFINITELY practice against other TPWWers. Try to memorize their techniques/patterns to give you an edge. Remember, it's not the character but the person controlling him who you're fighting.

Gamertags/Seedings:

1. Super V - Chiszmo
2. Gaylx - Kalyx triaD 360
3. RoXer - RoXer1
4. Fignuts - Fignuts82
5. Funky Fly - Busted Funk
6. Hasney - Hasney
7. thecc - falloftheage
8. Boomer - jtboomer2
9. Blitz - Luneknight
10. Drakul - Drakulbites
11. G - sgand
12. Ant - TonyRomoASL

Also, it is the middle of summer so I don't wanna hear about "Oh I have school" and "Oh I'm visiting my family for the holidays" and all that. Go fuck yourselves.

Kalyx triaD 07-04-2009 04:06 PM

Leave Sagat legal, he's legit. Seth can go fuck himself. I like the best of seven, nice number and it gives you more than enough chances to get your act together.

So whenever you start up an entry list, count me in by default.

RoXer 07-04-2009 04:10 PM

Oh yeah, respond to this thread with your gamertag if you want in obv.

I'll send a link to here via PMs to those who I think will join.

Fignuts 07-04-2009 04:12 PM

2 weeks.

Need more practice time than just one.

Several of us havn't played in months.

Fignuts 07-04-2009 04:13 PM

fignuts82

Blitz 07-04-2009 05:26 PM

luneknight

Don't care what the rules are I will likely get swept in the first round regardless.

Nah, you'll at least beat me. My play count is up to 1:32 :o

Funky Fly 07-04-2009 07:25 PM

1. Busted Funk

2. Sagat is fine.

3. SON OF A BITCH! BlazBlue just arrived and now I gotta fuckin' practice at Street Fighter? :'(

4. 2 weeks. Need a lil time.

G 07-04-2009 07:29 PM

So I went online for the very first time, and got my ass handed to me by Sagat. I can see why he's a problem for some (most). :(

Funky Fly 07-04-2009 07:34 PM

He has the ultimate fireball trap.

Heyman 07-04-2009 07:38 PM

Just curious - why would it be a disadvantage for someone of average talent, to go against Sagat?

The last Street Fighter game I played was for Super NES (SSFII). The only reason I can think of, is perhaps Sagat's fireballs are too fast? :?:

thecc 07-04-2009 10:53 PM

falloftheage

Boomer 07-04-2009 10:53 PM

No, he's probably just got that least amount of weakness of any character in the game. His moves have high priority and he's very good at close range and far away. He just walks slow...that's about it.

RoXer 07-04-2009 11:19 PM

Yeah and both his specials can break focus attacks and his normal moves are very strong and his ultra is very powerful.

Boomer, are you in? I sent you a PM and I think I played you on Live a few times.

Boomer 07-04-2009 11:21 PM

Yeah I'm in sorry. Jtboomer2

Yeah same. Felt like a scrub.

Emperor Smeat 07-05-2009 02:19 AM

I think the issue with Sagat in IV had to do with some chart that rated him as top fighter or in top 3 based on win percentage vs each other fighter.

Found the chart : http://www.capcom-unity.com/s-kill/b...rankings_chart

#BROKEN Hasney 07-05-2009 02:59 AM

My Live isn't working, I'm waiting for an ISP fix :(

RoXer 07-05-2009 05:20 AM

Practice offline. And it better be fixed in 2 weeks.

Or else.

Super V 07-05-2009 02:36 PM

I want in. GT - Chiszmo

Kalyx triaD 07-05-2009 07:34 PM

Sagat is top tier, but these lists are often formed by 'great' players who use them a certain way and set the precedent. In my personal experience, most of the Sagat's I faced blew ass. And how many of his players chose him on his listing alone? So yeah, Sagat's in. I don't even give a shit about tier lists.

RoXer 07-05-2009 08:10 PM

K. Hows about double elimination?

Kalyx triaD 07-05-2009 08:11 PM

Gotta be honest; very unfamiliar with these tourny terms.

Explain them to me.

RoXer 07-05-2009 08:20 PM

2 losses and you're out instead of 1 basically.

I'm posting on my phone, but google might help you out.

Kalyx triaD 07-05-2009 08:21 PM

Okay, 2xElim sounds good.

G 07-05-2009 08:22 PM

lol what is double elimination

Kalyx triaD 07-05-2009 08:23 PM

Don't laugh at me. :(

Super V 07-05-2009 10:14 PM

Shit forgot. Gamertag = Chiszmo

Super V 07-05-2009 10:18 PM

I don't understand the 4 character minimum concept.

You would if you played my Cammy or Sakura. Not only would it make things interesting, there's a meta-game involved as far as choosing characters. Something like choosing your leader in KoF games. You're gonna want to face my Vega or Ken (*shudders*) before my girls - this element presents that chance.

Y2Ant 07-05-2009 11:26 PM

TonyRomoASL

i'll play, but i'll probably get owned tbh

and i'd rather face sagat than akuma

Kalyx triaD 07-05-2009 11:33 PM

Akuma's easy as Hell. He's like a bonus round in Championship Mode. RoXy's pretty good with him, though.

Fignuts 07-06-2009 12:03 AM

fucking hate roxer's akuma

Kalyx triaD 07-06-2009 12:08 AM

Fireball volley, eh? I know ways around it.

Kalyx triaD 07-06-2009 12:10 AM

"Gaylx"

And no Khuntri?

Fignuts 07-06-2009 12:17 AM

I should be 3rd seed. I punched Funky Fly all over his jeans, when we played.

Kalyx triaD 07-06-2009 12:19 AM

God damn Capcom and no 'open' replay function.

My abel was the most effective. Beat his akuma once with him. But every other time he's beaten me.

His Fei Long is good too. Was satisfying when I finally beat him. He could still prolly take me with him 9/10.
