Need help buying a 360.

So I think I'm finally gonna cave and buy one. Prolly next paycheck after I pay off my Visa. I've heard rumors of huge price drops coming but after a very brief search online I can't find any concrete info. What is the best one to buy? Like there are different versions with hard drives and stuff or whatever, right. I don't even know. Someone help me so I can spend as little money as possible buying one.

The pro bundle (the middle one). Comes with a 60GB harddrive (which you'll need to play online).

The first one (the Arcade Bundle) does not come with a harddrive, and the Elite comes with a 120GB. In the end, the Pro is the best.

Is 60gb "enough" space? Like I have no idea how much hard drive space is even needed, or necessary. Totally clueless about how 360's work lol :'(

I've got an Elite - looking at a break down of what's on my HD, I have 50gb free, 19.4gb of "Games" and 37.4gb of demos (many of which I can delete due to owning the game anyway) - so unless you're going to be hoarding stuff, 60gb should be fine.

"Games" includes saved games, DLC, Arcade titles and XBox Originals fyi.

road doggy dogg 07-04-2009 04:18 PM

Sweet that is just the kind of info I was looking for. Will probably end up getting the Pro. I don't really see myself getting a ton of demos or doing a lot of downloads on there or w/e. Think that should be sufficient. Everywhere here has Pros on for $299 Canadian (approx. $250 US) Dunno if I should wait for another price cut or just bite the bullet now. :?:

All the info I can find suggests any cut that happens will be in autumn (aka "Fall") - so I guess it depends how long you're willing to sit it out.

road doggy dogg 07-04-2009 04:56 PM

Yeah, not sure. Was looking on Kijiji, someone selling a Pro for $150. Kinda tempted to call him. Never really used Kijiji though so I am nervous.

Rod Ze Dog, I recommend getting a Pro, unless you plan on getting Rock Band or Guitar Hero, in which case you will have 4359789635 DLC songs and will need the extra space.

Plus, you can rip music to the hard drive and have custon soundtracks to most original Xbox games and all 360 and arcade games, so that will take up space. Plus you can d/l arcade games from the Xbox Live Marketplace. And demos too. Plus game add ons like extra levels and stuff. Oh, and you can install games to the hard drive to make them run smoother and load faster. That takes up loads of space.

Plus if you decide you need the extra space, you can buy a 120gb hdd separately and transfer your shit over.

Plus the Elite one is black and black = sexxxy

Fryza 07-04-2009 08:14 PM

Yeah, I work at a GameStop, and have had my 360 for two-three years now. A Pro bundle is more than enough, and if you just clean out the stuff you don't need later, you'll be fine.

road doggy dogg 07-04-2009 09:25 PM

Yeah I am pretty much done with the whole GH/RB phase. Too retarded with 8 new games coming out every month it seems. Won't need a ton of DLC there.

I don't really know if I'll play a lot of Arcade games. I don't know. I could always just buy an HDD separately if I must. Will prolly just settle on a Pro. :y:

Someone was selling one locally on Kijiji for $150. Kinda tempted to give him a call.

That reminds me to put my old Pro 20 gb on craigslist. :y:

Didn't even realize I posted that thing about Kijiji twice. Awesome. Anyway. Kinda wanna buy it. Think I'm gonna talk myself into it next paycheck.

I'd buy from a reputable dealer.

Bad Company 07-05-2009 12:30 AM

make sure you get a jasper.

road doggy dogg 07-05-2009 01:30 AM

What the heck is that?

Make sure you can test it before you buy it man, some assholes around here have sold some redringed ones on kijiji.

Also, get a pro it has ethernet cable, headset, a 60BB Harddrive, etc. I have saved 5 Games on there and its still at 51.1 GB space, so I assume only downloadable content would actually make a significant difference

The latest model that is less prone to overheating/getting RRoD.

Funky Fly 07-05-2009 02:39 AM

Don't buy a used 360. The newer the better.

Vietnamese Crippler 07-05-2009 03:27 AM

You could also really cheap out and buy a box with the 3 red rings and fix it yourself.

Granted there is a 50/50 chance the fix might only last for a short period of time, but it's something to think about. Hell, it worked out great for me :o

That's how I got my 20GB 360 for $50. :D

3 weeks and no signs of an RRoD since fixing it.

This. With the massive hardware failure rate, I wouldn't trust a used 360. Example, I sold my first 360 on eBay under the premise that it has never gotten the RRoD. Little did they know, the day I put it up for auction is the day I received it back from the service center in Texas. :o

Hmm.. Thanks for the heads up. I'll prolly just buy a new one then and avoid the whole potential mess. Chenis penis.

PapaGeorgio 07-05-2009 04:00 PM

New pro definetly. It doesn't come with the HDMI cable, but those cost about 5 dollars max online. That and the extra 60gb are the only differences between Pro and Elite. Elite isn't worth it for large majority of people as 60gb should be plenty of room for a casual gamer.

Bad Company 07-05-2009 11:26 PM

And get a jasper.

download banjo-kazooie from the XBLA

How to find a Jasper Xbox 360

Engadget has an interesting (if gratuitous) disassembly of a new Jasper-era Xbox 360. But the most important thing here, of course, is the info on how you can ensure you’re getting a Jasper unit when you buy a new Xbox 360:
The Xbox 360 box has a hole at the top of it where the bar code of the console is visible. Clerks usually scan this when you buy one. What you need to do it look at the lower left corner of this box. If you peer closely you can make out at least half of the voltage/amperage rating of the unit. The # of amps used by the 12 volt rail is the key to determining which console it is. The photos below show this in detail.
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget....alcon_find.jpg
14.2 amps equals a Falcon unit (65nm CPU, 90nm GPU). Please keep in mind there's nothing wrong with having one of these, I play mine a lot and it's fine. You might not be able to see the whole voltage listing just through the peep-hole, but you should at least be able to see if a 14.2A or 12.1A is just to the left of the "5V".
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget....asper_find.jpg
12.1 amps equals a Jasper unit (65nm CPU, 65nm GPU). This voltage rating is also listed above the power input, but of course you can't see that when it's in the box.
There has been a lot of discussion about lot #'s, power supply ratings, and things of that nature being used to find Jaspers. I have found those to be unreliable.

road doggy dogg 07-07-2009 01:33 PM

Hm so just find one with the 12.1A then? Usually at stores they have the consoles locked behind the glass thing, when they bring it out should I hassle them to make sure I'm getting the good one? lol
crossrine

G 07-07-2009 01:39 PM

Yes, it could save you lots of time/money/headaches down the road. I don't even know if there are any old console on the shelves, it's been like 7 months or something since the Jaspers came out.

road doggy dogg 07-07-2009 01:44 PM

That's encouraging. God I wanna buy one so bad right now. Stupid nagging conscience making me be all responsible with my money.

Food and stuff is overrated. I've been living on corn and bagels the past week afer purchasing plane tickets and a new computer moniter, and I couldn't be happier.

St. Jimmy 07-07-2009 04:52 PM

www.playstation.com, should help you.

road doggy dogg 07-07-2009 05:12 PM

Why would I buy a PS3 when I can get a much better, cheaper 360 instead, and play with like 8x more people online?
