Could "the Merceless one" knock out Lesnar?

I just love watching that, not really sure why... Now I know that Ray Mercer would never get to the UFC, his fight against Sylvia was more about him proving that he is still and athelete and is willing to fight. The question I would like to ask is that is there anyone out there that is in the UFC or could possibly join the UFC that is strong enough and a good enough striker that could knock out Lesnar in a standup match?

thecc 07-13-2009 11:40 AM

no

CSL 07-13-2009 11:46 AM

I'm sure there are a few guys capable of doing it on punching power alone, Cheick Kongo maybe for example. However, that shot has gotta be landed, probably followed by a few more before Brock takes down and mauls

Vastardikai 07-13-2009 12:17 PM

I think CSLi has a point. The big if relies on the shot(s) landing. the Mauling is almost inevitable. Carwin has the best shot of beating Lesnar in the UFC.

Any heavyweight can KO another if the time is right. The odds are still huge in certain figths but it could happen to anyone. There isn't a man alive with a chin of stone.

Reavant 07-13-2009 03:54 PM

anyone who has one punch KOed another hwt can KO lesnar if its timed right

"punchers chance"

I'd think a guy like Gabe Ganzaga would have a strikers chance against him.. Plus he is a big strong guy who is a BJJ black belt who could prolly do fairly well on his back against Brock..

As of right now, I think Gonzaga, Couture, Big Nog, or Shane Carwin would be the best match up's for Lesnar.. I'd like to see Fedor come in, but that will prolly never happen..

Also, Reav's boy Arlovski could def be a challenge for Lesnar on the feet, if he was the Arlovski of old..

Couture could prolly be the biggest challenge for Brock due to his wrestling back ground, his strong hands, and his abilities to execute a gameplan ala the Tim Sylvia fight..

Reavant 07-13-2009 05:45 PM

If andrei landed one punch on brock, hed start diving at andreis legs and hed have no problem taking andrei down and destroying him

Kris P Lettus 07-13-2009 05:47 PM

:(

Kris P Lettus 07-13-2009 05:49 PM

Andre used to be one of the most fear strikers in MMA until he was KO'd by Sylvia.. After that he was completely timid and wouldn't let his hands go..

:wavesad:

Reavant 07-13-2009 06:05 PM

Well He got over that when he left ufc and his striking is still scary and he could fuck up anyone on the feet, but hes got his chin and if you grab both his legs he goes down and hes lazy on the ground

Kris P Lettus 07-13-2009 06:08 PM

That's what your big wrestling ass is supposed to be helping him with..

:D

Reavant 07-13-2009 06:48 PM

He has to come in and do the work

Nark Order 07-13-2009 07:19 PM

Does Tim Sylvia ever win?

The Mask 07-13-2009 08:04 PM

it's not something you can really say. until someone has been knocked out once you don't know how easy it is to knock them out. their guard, ability to roll with the punches and jaw all play a big part. it's easy to say if anyone landed a huge punch on lesnar he'd be down like a sack of shit but the guy is a very talented hungry fighter and he has a fucking ridiculous jaw on him. i want to see fedor/lesnar cause i think lesnar is going to steamroll through everyone else.

fedor would still win though.

Rob 07-13-2009 08:49 PM

We'll see soon enough.

The Mask 07-13-2009 08:58 PM

i hope so. it's something the ufc has suffered from a bit. for the longest time, whoever their heavyweight champion was never quite had as much respect cause in the back of everyones mind you have to wonder if they could beat fedor.

HeartBreakMan2k 07-13-2009 09:57 PM

Only to real MMA fans. To the casual fan Fedor is like an urban legend. Most American fans haven't seen Pride and for whatever the reason his full fights aren't the most accessible things ever to find online.

Rob 07-13-2009 10:39 PM

They'd build him like he was Ivan Drago before any UFC debut though.

HeartBreakMan2k 07-13-2009 10:51 PM

Oh I absolutely agree, but right now he's an urban legend to the casual fan.

Fignuts 07-16-2009 05:40 PM

I don't know if I'd bet against Nog if he were to face lesnar.

Reavant 07-16-2009 10:35 PM

I dont think nog is strong enough to beat lesnar

Vastardikai 07-16-2009 10:50 PM

Nog is blind in one eye. Does he really want that gigantic megaton punch in his face.

Funky Fly 07-17-2009 02:15 AM

Let's not forget who we're talking about here. Nog is fucking Brazilian Superman. The difference is he is weak against staph infections instead of kryptonite.

Kris P Lettus 07-17-2009 01:31 PM

Nog can take great punishment without breaking, that plus the fact at his level of BJJ, he could catch Lesnar at any time..

That being said, if/when they fight, I'd be pulling for nog but betting on Lesnar..

Reavant 07-17-2009 04:14 PM

Nog has been too slow on the feet lately. You cant be standing flat footed when your dealing with someone with that kind of power.

On the ground he will have a lot of trouble. The problem with heavyweights on the ground is that they are very hard to triangle choke and with lesnar's shoulder size, its damn near impossible. I bring up triangle because its a choke nog likes to use from his back. Also his arms are strong as most competitors legs, and if he stays in strong controlling positions like he did against mir, he will not get arm and shoulder locked.

The height of his traps to the back of his neck when he flexes will make it very difficult for him to get rear naked choked.

Hes going to be most susceptable to leg locks, but to get those, you need space for your hips to move freely and with lesnar's smothering style on the ground, it wont happen.

Now im going off of nogs last three performances, so ill see if i still think this way come 102
