Mortal Kombat is still the best video game movie ever.
Yep, and this is still the best theme ever.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xWnJyKQACXA&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xWnJyKQACXA&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> I mark the fuck out every time. Too bad they dropped the ball with Annihilation. |
Just wait until I write, direct, and produce my Team Fortress movie.
|
Tom Hanks with the accent from The Terminal and a fat suit as The Heavy.
Don Cheadle as The Demoman. Kevin Dillon as The Scout. Gunna change The Pyro to a hot chick. |
Agreed, MK the movie is pretty awesome to this day.
And sorry RoXer, the next big one will be my adaptation of Rival Schools. I'll add Sakura, Yun, Yang, and Sean to the classic roster - all played by white people. |
There are better themes.
|
Goes to show the state of the genre
|
I think Tenchu could transition into a mainstream hit fairly easily. But yes, MK is still the best.

Not after Ninja Assassin drops.

lol at how awful the fighting is at :40
|
Movie was bad-ass, although Scorpion disappointed me a little bit, not even sure why.
Oh, and Street Fighter was the most horrible video game movie ever. ( Note, I haven't seen any Uwe Bohl movies ) |
Scorpion vs Cage negates all that. Fucking awesome.
|
Mortal Kombat's alright. I wouldn't call it an awful movie, nor would I call it a good one. It's mediocre.
But it's probably getting points on brand familiarity and nostalgia. I mean, honestly, can you imagine watching that movie and trying to figure out what the fuck is going on? Any movie that isn't a sequel (and technically even sequels should) have the obligation of making itself accessible to all audiences. That's a prerequisite for being a good film. It has to have a beginning middle and end and some point of entry so you can figure out just what the fuck is going on. Otherwise you're just committing images to screen that cater to an existing fanbase. It's probably enjoyable because when we were 8 we used to play it on sega, so there's a built in affection for Scorpion and Sub Zero. I think the sooner people making video games realize these things the better off it will be for everyone. |

I saw Mortal Kombat in the theater a couple times. I even read the book on vacation.

There's a Mortal Kombat book? Wow.
It can't be worse than Last Action Hero book I got when I was like 10. |

It works on different levels too - there will be people who watch it and not like it because they were not around for the games, and who get confused, but it will also make some audiences want to find out more, watch the other film, the series, play the games, works both ways. I personally love it. Another thing I always loved about it was when Reptile emerged his name is actually heard on screen, I thought it was cool and stupid at the same time. Kinda like the whole film. Also, when me and my friends got stoned once, I would impersonate Kano, 'I love punctuality in a woman, don't you, Mr. Shang Tsung?'. After that he then named 3 of his kittens; one 'Mr.', one 'Shang' and the other 'Tsung'. |

Advent Children is a better videogame movie.
Tekken could end up being better given the awesome casting, but we'll see about that. |

Final Fantasy VII

I hated the computer animation in Advent Children. Also, I do not care for Final Fantasy at all.

Meh I never really cared for the movies that much but I actually liked the 2nd more between the two of em. Does anyone here actually remember the short lived TV series? Talk about Loken FTW lol.
|
I loved the series. They had a lot of celebs on it actually and hot women.
|
I downloaded the series, but never did get into it. It came on after Nitro.
|
|
Yeah I downloaded the series too. Still have it.

I mean, the characters we are meant to identify with -- Liu Kang, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade -- have no fucking clue what is going on, either. We learn as they learn, and it finally begins to click for them when shit gets real (mainly when Goro starts killing fucking everybody). You could make a darker Mortal Kombat, a more faithful Mortal Kombat, but ultimately what we got was pretty fucking good as its own thing. Annhilation borrowed way too much cheese from the video games, and didn't really adapt it to the screen well, at all. Plus it was just horribly made, and just threw characters out there for the fucking hell of it. A piece of shit could have directied a better Mortal Kombat II than whoever did that abortion. |
Two things:
1) Annihilation was good. Even better than the first one, I'd say. 2) Street Fighter was awful, yes...but it wasn't as bad as Double Dragon or Mario Brothers. |
I liked Street Fighter. :o
