Smackdown is better than Raw

There. I said it

Londoner 08-28-2009 05:33 AM

Well duh.

Juan 08-28-2009 05:39 AM

I'm watching Smackdown right now, and the first 20 minutes are already better than anything I've seen on Raw in almost a year.

Juan 08-28-2009 05:42 AM

Smackdown has been better than Raw in every way ever since the draft.

I used to be able to sit and watch Raw and at least find parts of it entertaining, but lately SD has been so good that I really only watch Raw now out of habit.

Juan 08-28-2009 05:42 AM

Raw had some high points in 2008 though.

Destor 08-28-2009 05:46 AM

SD! is always > RAW

Destor 08-28-2009 05:46 AM

TNA > RAW (shoot)

At this point, I don't doubt that at all.

Destor 08-28-2009 05:51 AM

TNA is awful btw.

Juan 08-28-2009 05:53 AM

I will never understand why some people still prefer to watch Raw.

Londoner 08-28-2009 05:54 AM

Who still prefers to? If they like seeing the same old dx jokes/big dick johnson, then there's something wrong with them.

Destor 08-28-2009 05:54 AM

Cause it's A)got the stars (wrestling doesn't draw [sadface goes here]) and B)it's on Mondays. Big day for TV.

I really wish real wrestling fans wouldn't fall for this.

I agree that WWE as a whole, isn't as great as it used to be, but Smackdown is fucking unbelievable right now and has been for a few months now.

and I agree destor, ever since the brand split in 2002, SD has almost always been better.

Juan 08-28-2009 05:58 AM

Micheal Hayes should get an award.

Destor 08-28-2009 06:06 AM

YES. The "best damn racist evah" award.

...I kid I kid, cheap shot I know. Yeah, Hayes has done A LOT of good for SD!

NoRoolz 08-28-2009 06:24 AM

1. Smackdown
2. iMPACT
3. RAW

Never catch ECW and Superstars isn't broadcast over here.

Agreed though, watching Smackdown and thinking 'wow this is actually great, great storylines, great matches and a great roster' is something I haven't done since like 2003, and back then it didn't seem so great 'cos the Attitude Era was a much more recent memory.

Dave Youell 08-28-2009 08:43 AM

I have to agree that Smackdown > Impact > ECW > Raw

Raw has turned into an entertainment show that happens to sometimes have wrestling on it.

RAW/SMACKDOWN is really starting to go like the old WWF/NWA stuff.

NWA: We do wrestling

Hence why all us ‘smarter’ fans prefer it, but it doesn’t bring in the big ratings, as Raw has more of a cross over appeal and we will all watch anything, because we are sheep

GD 08-28-2009 09:16 AM

They need to bring rejuvenate the Smackdown versus Raw rivalry.

You took the words right out of my <s>mouth</s> keyboard.

Have a green dot. :D

Smackdown is the new flagship of the WWE

Clearly it’s not,

Raw is getting almost double the viewing figures, however, it does have the advantage of having a much bigger market to project to, why USA never tried to get Smackdown was confusing to me, as I always thought it was a big ratings winner for them, so cross-promoting with Smackdown on a Friday would have been in everyone’s interest, IMO

My statement was from a fan's standpoint. Clearly SD is the superior show compared to WWE's "flagship" RAW. I know Raw draws more of an audience b/c if USA being one of the top cable channels and the fact it airs on Monday nights. The only thing IMO that really hurts SD ratings and audience is b/c the fact it airs on Fridays. I am the only person in my circle of friends who will sit at home on a friday night and watch wrestling.:-\

The Gold Standard 08-28-2009 10:18 AM

That has been my opinion for the past 2 years at least

It is on Mondays and people are home on Monday nights. Smackdown is on fridays at prime going out time.

screech 08-28-2009 10:35 AM

Definitely agree. I find now that I will make more of an effort to watch SD! on TV than online even (not sure why that makes a difference to me). And I only really watch Raw out of habit anymore.

owenbrown 08-28-2009 10:39 AM

Thank you Mr. Obvious  :p

XCaliber 08-28-2009 10:39 AM

I would agree with this statement had it been made almost 2 years ago but now I tend to disagree. The problem with RAW is that they have the better roster but we seem to get more of the same week to week. SD roster may not be as deep but I find I can get into the matches more since they do not focus on storylines so much. So if anything i'd say the shows are about on the same level and ECW was showing signs of improvement but that really didn't last for long.

Smackdown used to be on networks with strong saturation and drew about the same for the last couple years of that affiliation. They had a larger coverage than USA, both on Thursday and Friday.

The point of Smackdown was specifically to have a network presence, so USA wouldn't fill that purpose. Then again, their current network isn't doing the job either, but that hasn't really done much to impact things either.

Thing is, the fans tend to watch Raw, so Youell's right, from a fan's perspective. Fans may not care about ratings, but the ratings are based on the number of fans.

Loose Cannon 08-28-2009 10:56 AM

I agree Raw sucks. I agree Smackdown is better, but I watch Raw and do not watch Smackdown for the following reasons:

1) Smackdown is on Friday's. I am always doing something

2) I don't have a love for wrestling anymore where I will download shows or watch things online. Wrestling is just another show to me now. I am home Mondays. I watch Raw.

3) I hate the fact that Smackdown is taped. Kind of kills it a bit for me. I usually just read the spoilers here and that's that.

Mr. Nerfect 08-28-2009 11:05 PM

I don't feel stupider after watching SmackDown!. Everything is rather quite enjoyable over there. Even their attempts at comedy don't suck at your soul. The Cryme Tyme segments with Slam Master J A-K-A(!) Jeezy have been quite good.

Afterlife 08-28-2009 11:22 PM

You're Australian; CAN you feel stupider? ;)

Tazz Dan 08-29-2009 12:19 AM

CM Punk. Better than you.

There. I said it.

I could move to New Zealand?

By the way, Australia gets SmackDown! a day before the United States, which is pretty cool. I didn't catch it's original showing this week, though. I'll have to catch the reply tomorrow.

kareru 08-29-2009 12:47 AM
