Sunday, Bloody Sunday is the best U2 song ever

Sometimes you don't realise just how good a song really is until you hear someone cover it, like the different approach makes you take it less for granted.

I'm not really a fan of U2, especially not of Bono, but the bastard can write a great song when he gets the notion. Two things highlighted this for me: Johnny Cash's version of One, and Radiohead's cover of Sunday, Bloody Sunday. Far and away the two best U2 songs, the rest I can take or leave.

Sunday, Bloody Sunday is especially timeless, a comment that can be used for any tragedy, in any situation. Brilliant song.

In the top couple of U2 songs for sure.

Living End did a cover of it which I reckon is alright, bit different from the standard.

One is my favourite U2 song, that and With or Without You, just ahead of Sunday Bloody Sunday and Pride.

Yeah I was gonna say, I thought Living End covered that song. That one was all right. I'll download the U2 one and see what I think

Boomer 04-04-2004 11:10 PM

I'm pretty sure the Radiohead cover is just U2 with Bono whispering. Had the mp3 once. I'm sure it's possible, but Radiohead don't do covers very often. Cinnamon Girl and Rhinestone Cowboy are a few they have done.

I'm wondering that myself, but it does sound incredibly like Thom Yorke. Whatever, the point stands, Sunday, Bloody Sunday is the greatest U2 song by far. Even if it isn't a cover, it's a different take on it.

The Living End version is a bit terrible, though.

If radiohead covered it then they would have fuc</>ked it up ('cause they suck)

It is probably my all time favourite U2 song

Shaggy 04-05-2004 10:12 AM

I thought it was a great song when I first heard it. Now im a big fan of the Beautiful Day song. Thats my favorite U2 song. But I dont really listen to them all the time so I really dont count as much as the other fans do.

Yeah, it really gets across how much you hate sunday mornings.

ahahaha

Alan Partridge is the man.

By the way, nearly every other U2 song is forgettable, but One and Sunday, Bloody Sunday are magnificent.

Blue Demon 04-06-2004 02:33 PM

It's a good song....not one of my favourites but it's a good song

The Outlaw 04-06-2004 05:14 PM

One and SBS are their top two songs.

With or Without You I like as well.

Their live versions are always ten times better in my opinion though.

Electrical Storm is up there too, but Sunday Bloody Sunday is an awesome song.
I like Lady With the Spinning Head and Beautiful Day in the top few.

El Capitano Gatisto 04-07-2004 11:57 PM

Electrical Storm is fu</>cking terrible, as is Beautiful Day. The other one, I haven't heard it, but guessing from your track record, it's likely to be fu</>cking terrible.

Blue Demon 04-08-2004 12:08 AM

U2 is one of Rolling Stone's top 50 Artist's of all time....so HA

Watson 04-08-2004 09:48 PM

"With Or Without You" is their best song IMO. I love that tune.

TheJShow 04-10-2004 04:33 PM

Sunday Bloody Sunday is probably the best song though by them

Marbear 04-10-2004 05:10 PM

Sunday Bloody Sunday is my second favourite. But my favourite has got to be New Year's Day.
