Vince Comments on (Censored Name)

From PWInsider:

Thanks to Leon Peters for the following. ... I just picked up the new special edition magazine called "The Untold History Of The WWE" that WWE put out (the actual release date for it is September 15th). It's a timeline style magazine with all of the important events in WWE history. However it only begins with 1982 when Vince bought Capitol Wrestling. Nothing prior to that is mentioned. The magazine is broken up into 6 chapters, "The 80's Boom(1982-1985)", "The Dawn Of WrestleMania(1985-1990)", "The New Generation(1990-1996)", "The Attitude Era(1996-2001)", "The Postwar Era(2001-2005)" and "The Modern Era(2005-present)".

There's an interview with Vince at the beginning of each section and he makes some interesting comments. One of the last questions he is asked is "What about the Chris Benoit tragedy? We're two years removed - will there ever be a time when we can acknowledge him as part of WWE history?" Vince's response: "It's not right to pretend he didn't exist. It's one thing to include him as part of a historical perspective, which I believe is OK, and it's another thing to promote him, which is not OK. The situation is very similar to that of O.J. Simpson - despite his controversy, O.J. was still a part of the NFL scene. You can't deny that he existed."

It's a very cool magazine with Vince commenting on each "Era" of the company. There's way too much to recap, but the Benoit question I found interesting.

NoRoolz 09-10-2009 07:39 PM

Yeah. I like Vince's reply. Although Benoit to wrestling isn't quite what OJ was to the NFL, pretending he didn't exist is still ridiculous.

KYR 09-10-2009 07:45 PM

To be honest, I agree that that was a very good response from Vince. Well, good for Vince at the very least.

Xero 09-10-2009 07:46 PM

Hopefully he'll do what he's saying here. He's started, but not by much.

It's definitely a good response.

NoRoolz 09-10-2009 07:59 PM

How has he started? By doing this interview you mean, or in another way?

Xero 09-10-2009 08:05 PM

No, Benoit is in the Encyclopedia and I think he's mentioned again someplaces on WWE.com.

LuigiD 09-10-2009 08:08 PM

man..I was hoping it was Macho Man and not Benoit :D

I didn't know Benoit was a Diaper Lover.

Couldn't put it any better than that, really. Still can't watch Benoit matches, though.

screech 09-10-2009 11:09 PM

Don't know that the OJ comparison is relevant, but a good response for Vince. Hopefully he wasn't just blowing smoke.

I find that I can watch his matches, but it's quite difficult to do now.

Crossface chicken wings and tap water.

I haven't watched one since.

How would it not be relevant?

I saw his triple threat match for the Heavyweight title from Wrestlemania XX at my friend's house. Damn felt so awkward.

Evil Vito 09-13-2009 01:02 AM

Good response from Vince. Nothing pissed me off more than around the Royal Rumble the last two years, the Royal Rumble history page showing past winners of the Rumble match blatantly skipped over 2004. :o Like come on, are you really going to pretend that never happened?

Personally, I've had no problems watching any Benoit matches, cause he was just so damn good in the ring. It's a shame he turned into a coward at the end of his life, but I could never fault his in-ring work.

Kami Raki 09-13-2009 01:25 AM

Vince really gave the only answer he could. Thanks to the Vault, I've been able to actually sit and watch a Benoit match without feeling awkward.

I guess I just didn't expect it to come up here (never have before this).

RP 09-13-2009 04:54 AM

You guys act like he murdered his wife and kid.

owenbrown 09-13-2009 05:06 AM

lol

owenbrown 09-13-2009 05:17 AM

Who is this Benoit guy everyone keeps talking about? Some jobber? :?:

Pardeep 619 09-13-2009 12:46 PM

I can quite happily watch Benoit matches. It's a bit weird to think how both Eddie and Benoit were dead only 3 and a quarter years after Wrestlemania 20 considering that celebration both guys had in the ring together.

Sixx 09-13-2009 01:09 PM

I have no problem at all watching Benoit matches. I still enjoy them as much as I did before.

Professional athlete kills two people. The only difference is, OJ had enough sense to claim he didn't do it, and Benoit was completely off his rocker.

Sense? Like...

Or no, I'm not getting into an O.J. discussion.

I"m not saying he did a good job at looking innocent. lol

i find vince is good at saying things like this but then not acting on them.

Vince knows there are PG sponsors worried about his every move. He cares about them more than wrestling fans and/or history.

Mogadishu 09-16-2009 03:46 AM

Completely agree with Vince's reply.
