Kurt Cobain 1967-1994

And today is the 10th Year since his passing.

Surprised so many ppl overlooked this today in the music forum! No mention what so ever.

NVM, Post your fav songs, moments etc.

Personally favs spread from School to You Know Your Right.

Nirvana has always been one of my alltime fav bands, missing nirvana tremendously, in the sense of what other msuic they were destined to make.

Thankyou Kurt, Thankyou Nirvana.

Wengerland 04-05-2004 06:27 PM

I was going to post about it but didn't get round to it.I read a piece where it said he actually was found on the 8th but was thought to have shot himself on this day.

I only know the basic Nirvana songs like Smells Like Teen Spirit and You Know Your Right but they're both great so i should check out some more.

(Continue to) R.I.P Kurt.

:y: :(

Cactus Sid 04-05-2004 06:38 PM

Although, I should've said, Kurt is a legend as well

Supreme Olajuwon 04-05-2004 06:39 PM

Yup he died today. Good call

I like most of Nirvana's songs. Id probably say Lithium is my favorite

I'm sure there are others...

It's just that Cobain ain't one of them.

The Destroyer 04-05-2004 06:50 PM

Both of them were over-rated in my opinion, but hey, still a shame, even considering the dubious circumstances that led to both their deaths and oddly did little to taint their memory.

asphyXy 04-05-2004 06:58 PM

Jerry Cantrell was Alice in Chains. Layne Staley was a good vocalist in a great band.

The Destroyer 04-05-2004 07:01 PM

Precisely why I think Staley was over-rated...

Well, I doubt many people wil lsay that Cobain's death was a good thing.

Death isn't exactly a happy event, but it doesn't make me think any higher of his shit work in his life, just because he blew his brains out.

The Destroyer 04-05-2004 07:12 PM

If anything, you'd think being a raging heroin addict who eventually shot himself would detract from his legacy. Instead it transformed him into a "legend".

Kane Knight 04-05-2004 07:16 PM

And you'd think being a fat bloated guy who died in the toilet woulda put Evlis belly up.

The Destroyer 04-05-2004 07:18 PM

You idiot, Elvis didn't die.

Shaggy 04-05-2004 07:18 PM

They have been playing his songs all day here. My fav song is heart shaped box. i dont really have a favorite moment or anything.

Kane Knight 04-05-2004 07:22 PM

-EDIT-

Screwed up, wrong thread.

Arashi Kage 04-05-2004 07:26 PM

I've never really cared for Cobain & Nirvana.

samichna 04-05-2004 07:27 PM

Sucks for anyone to die, but he's not really a "legend" like everyone makes him out to be. :-\

Wengerland 04-05-2004 07:34 PM

Yeah his death probably made him more a legend than he was,but still great.:-\

The Mask 04-05-2004 07:34 PM

sure he is, okay so he's not as gifted as hendrix or anything, but he wrote a bunch of tunes and melodies that everyone remembers. I don't think he was ever a spokesman for a generation or anything like that but everything he wrote was catchy enough to make sure he should be remembered.

The Duck 04-05-2004 07:34 PM

He was inspirational and whether you like it or not, was a major catalyst in the resurgance of grunge and rock into the mainstream. The guy was undeniably talented (and troubled) and though I'm not the BIGGEST Nirvana fan, I'm certainly a fan. Some of their stuff was great (in my opinion) and though his death has undeniably hightened his status in music folk-lore and history - Cobain was great at what he did.

RIP Kurt.

Kane Knight 04-05-2004 07:36 PM

Undeniably talented?

Shut the fu</>ck up.

The Mask 04-05-2004 07:37 PM

death does that for everyone though. it immortalizes you within a timeframe. A lot of people would probably be forgotten by now if they hadn't died early.

Mr. JL 04-05-2004 08:02 PM

A really bad thing about his death is what happened afterwards...

ie: A bunch of his fans commiting suicide 'for Kurt' and all this stuff shortly after his death.

Nirvana is one of my favorite bands and my favorite song of theirs is "Come As You Are".
R.I.P. Kurt

el fregadero 04-05-2004 08:10 PM

One of the local radio stations is like making this day a tribute to him/Nirvana.

My favourite song is probably "In Bloom" or "All Apologies".

Nice attempt at a discussion there.

'Undenaibly' maybe was a poor choice of word. 'Talented' is an opinion of mine shared by many.

*agrees totally*

Kane Knight 04-05-2004 08:35 PM

There's not much room for discussion when you use a word like "undeniably." Garbage in, Garbage out.

You want to debate things, leave 'em open for debate.

What Would Kevin Do? 04-05-2004 08:42 PM

Eh, Cobain was, is, and shall forever be overrated IMO. Many of his songs make my ears want to bleed. While "In Bloom" and " Man Who Sold the World" are good, and there are a few others, a handful of decent songs and a suicidal lead singer does not make a band legendary, or in Nirvana's case, good.

JJ Moore 04-05-2004 08:43 PM

nice to see ppl still enjoying the msuic, and guys fighting, wanna move it into a diff topic please!

Kane Knight 04-05-2004 08:45 PM

No. :) But thanks for asking.

da_king 04-05-2004 08:58 PM

i think a lot of people felt they could relate to him and is partly why they became so successfull. i was a huge fan of his (and nirvana's) at the time and allthough his death was a bit of a blow at the time, i don't think it was too unexpected considering the path he was going and the close calls he had. his death does seem less impactfull (at least to me) as the years go on and i've moved on but stll it is sad.

anyways my fave song would be heart shaped box and i really did enjoy in utero allthough nevermind seems to be the one that everyone seems to point to.

Pretty sad thing altogether IMO, but obviously there will be people who have their own opinions and bash the guy and what he did but whatever.

DS 04-05-2004 09:32 PM

Courtney killed him. Otherwise, I like most of their songs but Lithium would probably be one of my favorites.

Penner 04-05-2004 09:38 PM

RIP

i like most of their songs

Yeah Nirvana was a good band, hella catchy songs. Sucks that he shot himself, but it doesn't make me think he's better/worse than he was when he was alive.

-His fingerprints weren't found on the gun, the paper he wrote his suicide note on, or the pen he wrote it with.
-The note wasn't even in his handwriting.
-He was apparently LOADED with so much cocaine that he wouldn't have been able to lift the gun.
-On top of all of that, Courtney was pissed at him and wanted a divorce and wouldn't have gotten a good amount of Cobain's money.

Sad day for music, 10 years without one of the greatest bands ever (in my opinion, of course).

RIP Kurt Cobain: 1967-1994 :(

Kane Knight 04-05-2004 10:14 PM

Most of those "facts" about Cobain's death are right up there with the "ice bullet" theory.
