If Eddie Was Around

How much better would Raw be? Kind of a moot question, I know, but I just saw a few Eddie vids on YT and I got to thinking that if he were on Raw right now, things wouldn't be nearly as boring as they are.

Xero 09-28-2009 08:44 PM

He'd probably be on SmackDown!, so the same.

Though Chavo probably wouldn't be getting shat on and someone else would have been the jobber to midgets.

Afterlife 09-28-2009 08:45 PM

Well, if I was asking about Eddie being on SD, that would be a great response.

Xero 09-28-2009 08:47 PM

Well, you said if he was around. And if he were around, he'd be on SD.

I'm being realistic.

Afterlife 09-28-2009 08:55 PM

And then that part in my long, long post about him being "on Raw". So...yeah...

CSL 09-28-2009 08:58 PM

Chavo probably wouldn't have a job if Eddie was still around

Emperor Smeat 09-28-2009 09:08 PM

Chavo only got a decent push after Eddie died since that's when they dropped the Kerwin gimmick and tried to push him as a Guerrero since WWE lost Eddie abruptly. If Eddie was still alive, Chavo might have still been in the lower card level.

CSL 09-28-2009 09:11 PM

Chavo's been expendable for a long time

Isn't he still? I don't see main eventers or people with much future jobbing to Hornswaggle week after week. Just saying.

He got pushed for a bit after Eddie died but it didn't last as long. He hasn't done much since his time as ECW champion or after Vickie Guerrero left.

I doubt Eddie Guerrero would have been exclusively kept on SmackDown!. It was becoming more and more obvious that while everyone was sort of losing steam, Eddie was gaining it. The man played a brilliant heel character just before his death, when everyone said that he was "too over" to do so.

It looked like Eddie was just about to become the World Heavyweight Champion, which at this time would have made him only the third guy next to Triple H and Shawn Michaels to have been both WWE Champion and World Heavyweight Champion. I truthfully believe that Eddie would have become, ultimately, the top guy in the entire company, based solely on how entertaining he was. Eddie is one of those guys that didn't make you embarrassed to watch wrestling.

That would have eventually warranted a move to RAW. I am trying to imagine possible feuds with Triple H and Shawn Michaels, respectively, and it is blowing my mind.

As for how Chavo fits into this -- he was doing a pretty amazing job as Kerwin White. I mean, it was a bit of a joke gimmick, but it was serviceable and Chavo was having really solid matches with guys like Shelton Benjamin. Who knows if Chavo would have eventually turned face and went back to being a Guerrero or not? With Eddie in the company, Chavo would have had friends in high places, and I do not doubt that he would have had at least a little success.

Truthfully, I think Chavo would have achieved about what he has, with perhaps a few mid-card title reigns thrown in there. He could have also teamed up or feuded with Eddie a few times, and might have been on a more consistent journey. I wouldn't say he would have definitely cracked the main event, but I think he would be seen as a major asset to the company.

Here's the even bigger question: If Eddie were still around, would Benoit have gone bat-shit crazy? Eddie seemed to be a bit of an anchor for him and vice versa.

I don't think benoit ever really recovered from Eddie's death and in all honesty, the WWE has never recovered either.

Although SD was showing signs of life before Dancing Dave came along to fuck it up.

If Eddie was around today......

surely he would be decomposed so much that he would be unrecognizable, you should still be able to see his back acne, identify him that way.

I was going to bring this up, but decided not to. It seemed as if Eddie's death really stressed Benoit out, so if Benoit did manage to stay sane if Eddie remained alive, then we could have two of the best wrestlers of all-time still forging their legacy.

I still think that if Chris Benoit and CM Punk had feuded over the ECW Title like the plan seemed to be, then the WWE would be A LOT different today.

Afterlife 09-30-2009 07:37 AM

I have a hard time thinking that Eddies existence would have kept Benoit's brain from deteriorating.

Mr. JL 09-30-2009 07:53 PM

There may have never been a Wellness Program if Eddie Guerrero had not died.

Also, I think Chris Benoit would have been fucked either way. Just look at the findings on the state of his brain. No amount of friends can help someone through that mess.

Precisely. It may very well have happened differently, but I'm sure something unpleasant would still occur.

Sixx 10-01-2009 04:07 PM

If he was wrestling now I think he'd be as entertaining as Khali.

That's true. I think it would have happened differently, though.

Afterlife 10-04-2009 10:37 AM

Probably.
