Which is harder?

Being a good face or being a good heel.

I say it is hard to be a good face that everyone can get behind.

Xero 10-01-2009 05:57 PM

It's always the heel. It's much easier to get people to hate you than to love you.

Sixx 10-01-2009 05:59 PM

Ask Sean Waltman.

CSL 10-01-2009 06:11 PM

For a worker, heels. The heel is usually the guy in charge in the ring, 'leading' if you will. Pretty rare a guy in his first match will ever be a heel. Probably a different story 'at the top' though. With how quick the turnover of talent is nowadays and the small window of opportunity guys get, connecting with the audience and getting over as a babyface is pretty important and harder to do than really getting over as a heel.

BigDaddyCool 10-01-2009 07:18 PM

I mean in getting over. I mean a good heel seems to be a dime a dozen. Who can you name that isn't just another bland face?

I agree being able to get the crowd to hate is hard

Sixx 10-01-2009 07:28 PM

That makes no sense.

Waylander 10-01-2009 07:48 PM

I suppose a heel could always be booked to do something to get hated, say attacking a popular wrestler, to get himself over whereas we (the fans) will hate a face regardless of who the beat if we simply don't like them.

Perry Saturn 10-01-2009 07:52 PM

yeah just like john cena

Londoner 10-01-2009 08:07 PM

I'lld say its harder to be a good face.

Nicky Fives 10-01-2009 08:57 PM

nowadays its pretty much all in the writers hands.... back in the day, it was much harder to be a face

Londoner 10-01-2009 09:00 PM

There is a difference between a 'face' and a 'truly good face' though...

Jannettyzilla 10-01-2009 09:04 PM

Depends on the talent.

The Gold Standard 10-01-2009 09:49 PM

Good Face. It is a lot easier to get people to hate you than like you.

That is true some people just have more natural charisma than others

^ This.

Jannettyzilla 10-01-2009 11:14 PM

I pose a challenge.....take a look at the list of wrestlers below, and post whether you think it's easier for that wrestler to be a face or heel.

Undertaker
Shawn Michaels
CM Punk
Shelton Benjamin
Hulk Hogan
Rick Rude
Roddy Piper
The Rock
Taka Michinoku
Goldberg

Is your answer the same for all ten?

(BTW, I'm not trying to prove a point, I've stated my opinion. Just curious to see what others think...)

Sixx 10-01-2009 11:43 PM

About The Undertaker. I never understood how a lord of darkness gimmick could work for a face wrestler, but well, it obviously does.

Emperor Smeat 10-02-2009 12:05 AM

Its harder to keep the momentum of being a heel/face than actually being a heel or face since if you keep appearing invincible as a face, crowd begins to get bored and starts booing or stops caring. Same as a heel, if the character is too dominate or too weak, crowd begins to not even care what the heel might do and get bored.

Triple H as a heel in beginning of brand split was booed more because he was too dominate and becoming boring with the crowd than actually getting the crowd legit upset. Cena as a face with his move to RAW basically became flat since nobody was booked to be equal to him and many fans begin to see him as boring.

IRodC 10-02-2009 12:33 AM

Good Face, you can just call the crowd, or just one audience member a fat piece of shit and youll get booed.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-02-2009 12:50 AM

Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Rock are the two guys of my generation that were the only truly phenomenal faces.

Before that there was Bret and Shawn, and Taker transcends time :p

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-02-2009 12:51 AM

Don't really know why I posted it. I guess it's to show, "that's the standard of a really good face". You need to have something about yhou that is unique, intrinsically almost to be an incredible face.

Being a bad guy is fun. It is not hard for a lot of people, just channel your id and think dark thoughts :p

DAMN iNATOR 10-02-2009 01:56 AM

It's much more difficult to become an amazing face, because not only is it really tough if you're new to the industry to get crowds to love you, because you have to have tons of charisma, excellent mic work, and need to learn to develop as a superstar pretty quick in the wrestling industry today. Also, there's certain boundaries you can't cross. Being a heel, you can easily get tons of heat on yourself just by beating down a rival week after week and/or cutting promos that offend not just a rival superstar, but also all the fans who connect with them so well. Plus as a heel, in most instances, in a match you can get a cheap DQ, Pin or Count-Out by numerous sneaky methods.

It's way easier playing a heel, I would say, based on the points made above.

Ruien 10-02-2009 02:27 AM

Being a heel is easier, but being a heel that makes the crowd love the face is hard. Does that make sense?

blake639raw 10-02-2009 02:40 AM

Definately harder to be a face.

To elaborate on what Xero said- People will need new reasons to like you, but can hold a grudge for years over one thing.
