Backyard Wrestling

i watched this documentary last night it's about the better side of backyard wrestling rather than the usual documentary showing kids throwing each other off towerblocks onto chainsaws, now in this documentary is a backyard wrestling promotion called WOW (Warriors Of Wrestling) and i was blown away by these kids they were fucking fantastic, theother matches they show on the documentary aren't so exiting but watch out for the WOW matches trust me you will be impressed. the documentary also features
vampiro, konnan, new jack, the sandman and wwe's own josh matthews and his backyard fed.

YARD TAAAARRRRRRDS!

kareru 10-02-2009 02:20 PM

trust me, watch the WOW guys they were incredible

CSL 10-02-2009 02:25 PM

I skipped 9 minutes in and watched for about a minute. It's pathetic.

Waylander 10-02-2009 02:37 PM

I hate Backyard wrestling, it's normally just a bunch of skinny kids with no shirts who think doing a dodgy moonsault makes them a great wrestler. I won't watch sorry.

CSL 10-02-2009 02:43 PM

Skipped to 37 minutes, there is a sequence and it is sloppy as fuck. I mean, come on

kareru 10-02-2009 02:44 PM

ok watch the matches starting at

37 mins

and

1hr 15mins 10 sec

rofl

CSL 10-02-2009 03:05 PM

I watched the first 3 minutes of the match at 37 minutes. They've had no training, a very small amount at most. A bunch of awkward, stop/start, sloppy as hell flippy reversals does not mean they are 'fucking fantastic'. They remind me of the little plebs you get showing up at training sessions who's only interest is doing moonsaults onto crashmats. They're a disgrace.

CSL 10-02-2009 03:06 PM

If I paid to see a show and had to sit through that, I'd pretty much have my head in my hands the whole time

kareru 10-02-2009 03:08 PM

i agree that they need some training, but you can deny it all you want but it was a great match

Xero 10-02-2009 03:11 PM

In your opinion.

Lock Jaw 10-02-2009 03:12 PM

That's not wise.

They need a lot of training and no, it wasn't. It was awful. The offense was awful. The selling was awful. The exectution was awful. The pacing was awful. The psychology was awful. Their looks were awful. The ring was awful.

Dunno how many more times I can say awful.

In my opinion, I don't respect yard tards.

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with people fucking around here or there and even putting on 'matches', but when they do it with no care and/or assuming that they actually know what they're doing and not taking any precaution whatsoever (which the large majority don't) then they can just fuck off.

For the record, after reading Jericho's book, if I were to ever start wrestling, I would want to go his route and the way he was trained. Build rock-solid fundamentals first before even thinking about going to the "advanced" shit.

I may know nothing about how wrestling "really" works (because, let's face it, I'm just a super fan, and nothing else right now) but I know that I respect the business to the point that, if I'm going to do this, I'm going to do this the "proper" way.

CSL 10-02-2009 03:18 PM

They'd be bad if they were trainees, let alone actually performing on shows in front of an audience.

:y:

The amount of people that don't do this because they wanna copy WWE and ROH guys is crazy.

Lock Jaw 10-02-2009 03:22 PM

But.... if you distract the crowd by flipping enough times, they won't notice, right? Right? :shifty:

kareru 10-02-2009 03:22 PM

hey some of todays best wrestlers started in the backyard, then got some proper training

Xero 10-02-2009 03:23 PM

Well, when they can't run the ropes right to execute those flips then yeah, they will.

The majority of today's worst did, too.

Again, I'm not shitting on all backyard wrestling - I have no problem with the safe ones who are just messing around.

The bottom line is that, if you're going to ACT "professional", then get some proper fucking training instead of watching a few tapes and assuming you can do everything they can do right off the bat or after a few minutes of practicing.

i agree these guys need proper training, but if these guys are at this caliber with the 'monkey see monkey do' training imagine how good they could be with some proper training

Xero 10-02-2009 03:35 PM

I wouldn't call it good. They have the general concept of wrestling down and can do a few moves without botching. Not "good".

Now if they had proper training, who knows. Maybe they could, but the people who go into this I don't feel would go through and actually learn how to work a match. Spot monkeys at best.

You've failed English. That's entirely possible.

seriously though...I watched with an open mind. I really did.

I could not find anything worthwhile.

I was hoping for a bunch of kids with a good sense of humor hitting eachother with padded chairs, hulkamania-styled promos and fun...I didn't see that here. Point to one match where they're not being stupid and actually look like they're having a good time.

It always seems to be autumn when these things are filmed.
