The Shield

About 4 months ago, my friend Will (poster JeSuisAwareAware) gave me the first two seasons to watch...

Since then, as much as I could, I have been watching the whole saga until Season 7.

What can I say......I fucking loved it.

Thing about finding and watching this gem, is that I wish I was in on it when it happened, when everyone else was into it. That's what I love about being a big LOST fan, I eargly anticipated the first episode as soon as I saw the adverts back in summer 2004, and since then its been such an engaging story.

However, The Shield now ranks up there with my fave shows of all time...

1 - LOST
2 - The Sopranos
3 - Arrested Development
4 - The Shield
5 - Twin Peaks
6 - Prison Break
7 - Trailer Park Boys
8 - Heroes
9 - Six Feet Under
10 - South Park

I won't go over every single piece of info, scenes or plots because there is so much, so here are some smaller notes:

  • Michael Chiklis is now a friggin legend in my eyes
  • My fave character out of the whole thing was actually 'Dutch' - spin off please :D
  • Superb acting credit goes to; CCH Pounder, Walton Goggins and Forest Whitaker.
  • Like Tony Soprano, there were so many times I felt sorry for, and angry at Vic, awesome stuff.
  • Did wish there was a bit more cinematography in terms of montages, music, etc.
Overall, I loved the whole story arc from start to finish, I loved it. Definitely recommend it to ANYONE who is need of some quality TV who has not yet given it a try.

Very very glad I saw this.

I don't know which season I've been watching but the last episode I've seen was when this dark-haired, three-day facial hair guy pulled a Chris Benoit and the bald guy sold his suit-wearing friend to the police to save his own ass from doing time.

The Destroyer 10-12-2009 03:39 PM

Fantastic show. It was a sheer fluke I ever saw the first episode, but I'm glad I did. One of my favourite TV shows of recent years.

LOL I myself said 'he just pulled a Chris Benoit'

Thats the last season, season 7.

El Vaquero de Infierno 10-12-2009 05:47 PM

Season 7 was on Five USA, but I didn't have digital at the time, and it pissed me off something awful. I'm probably going to buy all the seasons on DVD eventually.

Lemmie (R.I.P.). I can never forgive Shane for what he did.

I remember when this show ended they had Sons of Anarchy starting up and right when this ended Dutch was that show but just wasnt Dutch....

He was a cop and everything and I was hoping it was gonna be a small little crossover bit but it wasnt. Thought that it would have been cool.

I always thought it would have been cool for shows that were strictly on one channel to maybe cross over from time to time. But only if it felt right

Sixx 10-12-2009 06:53 PM

Um, I can't see a character named Dutch on imdb. His full name maybe or something?

Jon Kano 10-12-2009 07:10 PM

Holland Wagenbach (sp?) lol hence the nickname

I have said for years, that TV shows and films really need more crossovers and intertextuality, would make things a lot more awesome. But it would have to be executed in the correct form and function.

Oh, wasn't that the guy that picked up some lady and then suspected her son of killing her and trying to set him up?

The Genius 10-12-2009 10:53 PM

check out casttv.com for any missed episodes. i miss that show so much.

Sovereigntywillpr 10-15-2009 03:17 PM

You'd like sons of Anarchy, I was talking about this during thanks giving (Canada's is in octobre) and it turns out my best friends uncle is good friends with Kurt Sutter (co-prodcer of the shield as well as that hitman in the shield, he also plays Big-Auto in SAMCROW) and we're supposed to meet him next time he's down...

I brought over the DVD's to his house and gave them to his mom and she was like "that's the show that mike always talks about"

The guy who knows Sutter is a huge fan of Sons of Anarchy but has never seen the shield, I couldn't belive it.

If you wish you watched The Shield while it was on you'll love watching SOA (the 6th episode of season 2 aired this week, PM for links, if you live in the states you'll have better luck finding them online than me)

They use the same gangs. They even mention Sodofian and other people from The Shield, the One Niners and Nordics as welll as other gangs from The Shield are in Sons Of Anarchy and make up just as much (or more, in the nordics case) a part of the plot line.

...I haven't heard the Armanian Mob mentioned yet though...

GOLDBERG'S BEST FRIEND 10-21-2009 06:53 PM

Sons of Anarchy might be my favorite show right now.

SoA is goddamn amazing.

As was The Shield.

Ogen 10-26-2009 07:30 PM

Can anyone hook me up with a link to download the first series? Can't find it anywhere I use now that my ISP has blocked thepiratebay

Miotch 10-26-2009 07:45 PM

www.warez-bb.org

Gotta be in there somewhere, Ogen.

Robodiv 10-26-2009 11:48 PM

Im surprised 24 isnt up there in your favourites.

Vic Mackey is the man. I went out as him for halloween one year complete with the shades, skinhead, leather jacket, gun , and PHONE BOOK! (if you remember season 1, he beats up a peado with a phone book <3 )

CLETUS VAN DAMME!

Jon Kano 10-27-2009 12:54 AM

I don't or have not seen this '24'. Prob save it for when TV shows really do become shit.

This is where I watched most of the series..

http://free-tvshows.com

If one or two episodes were not on there, I head over to www.ninjavideo.net, which is insanely awesome for TV shows and movies.

Rob 10-27-2009 07:40 AM

The Sheild.

Best TV Show of all time. If you think different, you're wrong.

That's all.

Miotch 10-27-2009 08:09 PM

While The ShIEld is an incredible show, it's not the best of all time.

Sopranos, The Wire, and Lost all spring to mind as better, just off the top of my head.

Jon Kano 10-27-2009 09:01 PM

I would personally say The Sopranos or LOST also.

I tried getting into The Wire - it was good, detailed and thorough, but it lacked, personally entertainment and that x factor that makes it great.

Rob 10-28-2009 12:57 AM

I watch Lost and I loved the Sopranos (which would be #2 for me) but there were times I watched one of those episodes and thought it sucked a dick. I NEVER thought that with The Shield. Every single episode made me want to watch the next one too bad.

GOLDBERG'S BEST FRIEND 10-28-2009 04:34 AM

I don't recall any Sopranos that "sucked a dick". I do love The Shield pretty hard in the ass though.

Rob 10-29-2009 02:46 AM

The main reason why I think so highly of The Shield is that from the first minute of the first episode to the last second of the last, every single little thing in the show mattered. Nothing was forgotten. Even when you thought it was, it came back in the next series or the one after. The continuity of storylines was unbelievable.

The Sopranos had plenty of stuff that left people wondering and was never picked up on again. Paulie and Christopher chasing the Russian in the snow for example. If that was in The Shield, it might have taken another 3 series but you would have found out where that really ended.

GOLDBERG'S BEST FRIEND 10-29-2009 03:10 AM

Season 5 of the Shield is probably my favorite single season of any show ever.

Sovereigntywillpr 10-29-2009 11:34 PM

Sons of anarchy (aired 27th) was fucking awsome! watch it on FX.com for you americanos...

El Vaquero de Infierno 04-16-2010 04:39 PM

Holy shit, just finished season 7. The scene in "Possible Kill Screen", when Mackey comes clean with every dirty deed he has done, to get immunity with ICE. Christ.

I like how they put Mackey into his own personal hell at the end.

Ogen 04-16-2010 05:07 PM

Watched all of this last year after TPWW spoke so highly of it, really really great show.

PapaGeorgio 04-18-2010 06:12 PM

FYI The Shield: The Complete Series - $64 at Deep Discount.

Just bought it myself, love this show.

CSL 08-10-2010 07:12 PM

Gonna start this tonight. Just finished The West Wing (fucking , top 4 with Lost, Sopranos, Wire) and need something I haven't seen and I've been meaning to check this out for ages. Became a bit hesitant after reading through this at first when somebody mentioned a correlation between liking this and Sons of Anarachy (thought/think it is quite terrible) The Rob and Ogen posts should see me through at least the first season though.

PapaGeorgio 08-10-2010 07:23 PM

I love this show. Got all excited to see a bump in the thread.

Miotch 08-10-2010 07:35 PM

Oh man I may go rewatch it all again.

IC Champion 08-13-2010 05:14 PM

Just finished watcing the series 2 days ago, way better than I thought it was gonna be. I'd put it in my top 10.

CSL 08-13-2010 05:23 PM

3-4 eps in and I was kind of 'meh'. Up to ep 8 of Season 1 now and I'm pretty sure I'll be watching all of it, last few have been good shit. Only qualm I have is it's a bit too 'monster of the week' focused for my liking. Maybe that changes as the characters/stories grow, dunno.

PapaGeorgio 08-13-2010 05:53 PM

It changes a bit more as time goes on I guess. Still somewhat monster of week with some stories, but they get more story arcs going. First season is more establishing characters, then later seasons you get bigger payoffs with everything.

IC Champion 08-13-2010 06:09 PM

And it's villian of the week.

CSL 08-13-2010 06:15 PM

Dunno, the fat bird that the 2 black guys were fighting over in the first half of Season 1 was definitely more monster than villain.

IC Champion 08-13-2010 06:27 PM

Lol, dont front you know you'd hit that
