An (incomplete) guide to Australian indie
 

So I was posting that Bluejuice thread and thought to myself, 'there's a wealth of great independent music in this country, but we don't really hear it about it much on here, since obviously this tends to be an American and European-dominated forum'. Those words exactly. For my part, I haven't exactly done much to help the situation since I dig a lot of international bands, a lot of times more than ones that come from Australia.

But that said, a lot of my favourite bands *are* Australian, and for those of you who are overseas and may not have had exposure to some of them, this is a brief rundown of some of the better acts (imo) that are trotting around our country. There's something for everyone! Folk, rock, electro, instrumental, pop, probably a couple other genres I'm forgetting... whatever. Enjoy the flavours of the Southern Hemisphere:

i really enjoy the grates, but that's all i've checked out so far. also that "blood" video is pretty cool. glad to see that they made one.

I really recommend Dappled Cities, Pivot, Sarah Blasko, Hungry Kids of Hungary, The Whitlams and Angus & Julia Stone.

yeah the Grates are normally not the type of band I like, but they're pretty ridiculously catchy. And they do good live show, if not just a tiny bit weird.
