Do you think Dave Meltzer if given the proper tools...

could book a successful wrestling company? Like if TNA decided to hire Dave as head booker or even Vince did, do you think he would be able to figure out how to make an amazing product or even a good product?

I ask, because the guys knowledge of the business stems back so many decades and he's so astute about it all. He isn't just some fanboy prick on the internet who thinks he knows everything. I mean he is still a dirtsheet writer and all but he's the original really, and he's the most knowledgeable guy around. He's not perfect, but I wonder what he'd do.

:?:

It comes back to can Writers be GM's for sports teams... Meltzer knows what works and doesn't, but could he handle the wrestlers and politics?

I'm going to say he no, but an interesting question.

I'm not a big fan of his, but I think he could have a go at it.

I don't think he'd be great, but he has enough knowledge to do an okay job.

screech 10-16-2009 12:25 AM

I'm sure if he had people under him who could handle the politics (if that makes any sense) and whatnot he'd be okay.

:y: exactly what I was thinking.

Meltzer is more of an analyst of stuff that occurs and potential news/rumors of stuff that occurs. He doesn't have that experience sitting in the booking meetings to get an idea of how the storylines are created or the thinking behind a new idea/story.

Its possible if he started out as part of a booking group to get hands-on experience with all the actual backstage stuff and then years later be promoted as head booker.

I reckon he's seen so much wrestling, so much good matches and angles that he knows what works from a viewers perspective so yes I do think he could book a good show, but I think he'd maybe need a partner to stop him drowning after being thrown in the deep end.

I'd watch the show he booked if I'm honest, maybe I'd finally get that wrestling show I've been looking for. The one with feuds stemming from titles etc instead of soap opera stories.

I think wrestling would lose its PG-13 role if he was booking for WWE..... which I can honestly say I would enjoy.... but I don't think he can have any long-term success...

The difference b/w him running a company and journalist becoming a gm is that wrestling results are pre determined.

Gertner 10-16-2009 10:29 AM

Meltzer is like a philosophy major: critque/bitch about everything, solve nothing.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-16-2009 10:41 AM

He doesn't bitch about everything, at least not as much as everyone else, he's usually the one presenting reasonable solutions.

BigDaddyCool 10-16-2009 10:41 AM

Meltzer is a critic. He can't do anything for himself which is why he just writes.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-16-2009 10:42 AM

I'd still like to see it happen, just so he can put his money where his mouth is.

BigDaddyCool 10-16-2009 10:43 AM

Yeah. I wouild like to see him shut up.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-16-2009 10:45 AM

Or succeed? Could go either way you know...

BigDaddyCool 10-16-2009 10:47 AM

I would be a little bitter then for reason I don't understand.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-16-2009 10:57 AM

hahahaha understood.
