Shane McMahon quits WWE...what?

Posted on WWE.com

It is with great sadness that I announce my resignation from the WWE, effective January 1, 2010.

I have never even considered a future outside the walls of the WWE. However, sometimes life takes an unexpected turn and while it is the most difficult decision I have ever made, it is time for me to move on.

First and foremost, I would like to thank my father for the incredible education working with him has provided and for giving me the opportunity to play a role in building WWE into the global phenomenon that it is today. I am extremely proud to have been the 4th generation in this business, and I am grateful for everyday I was able to work along side not only my own, but the entire WWE family.

Thank you to all of the WWE Superstars both past and present for your passion, pride and dedication. You are truly the engine of the organization and it has been a pleasure to work with, learn from and get to know all of you. Thank you for the privilege of sharing the stage with you and for allowing me to become but a momentary member of your elite brotherhood. I have so much appreciation for the many sacrifices you endure, both physically and personally, to make this business the success that it is. The respect I have for each of you is immeasurable.

Finally, there are no words to express my gratitude to WWE fans the world over for supporting this company through good times and bad and for your unbridled passion that fuels the Superstars’ performances. I am profoundly grateful to have been able to entertain you both in front of the camera and from behind the scenes. You are the greatest fans in the world.

I will always love this business and will remain a fan forever.

Shane

What the Fuck!

The Jayman 10-16-2009 09:23 AM

did not see this coming...wow

Sixx 10-16-2009 09:25 AM

Wow... I mean... Why exactly?

Ermaximus 10-16-2009 09:26 AM

Holy shit! With that, there goes one of the guys who takes the sickest bumps. Not a good start to the day.:(

Testicle 10-16-2009 09:27 AM

Honestly, he could work better than 95% of the roster.

The Jayman 10-16-2009 09:29 AM

Shane comes out on Raw and says "I now own TNA"....lol

It's the sad truth. He helped put more guys over than HHH, Cena, and HBK combined IMO. Who could ever forget his leaping elbow drop off the titantron?

GD 10-16-2009 09:34 AM

I always thought he would run the company after Vince retires or passes away. :(

Mr. Nerfect 10-16-2009 09:57 AM

Doesn't really surprise me. I mean, for a while it's always been Stephanie that was getting groomed to take over, wasn't it? Plus, we saw Linda leave recently, which shocked me more for some reason.

I don't see why this closes the door to Shane appearing on-air occasionally.

Evil Vito 10-16-2009 09:59 AM

If it's legit...damn.

But I can see this just being a work, and Vince tries to keep him by making Shane the GM of Raw or something. I hope so, as I've grown tired of this Guest Host crap.

Nope, that honor will go the Levesque family now. :shifty:

Nicky Fives 10-16-2009 10:20 AM

WOW! I love Shane..... hope he'll return in some sort of capacity in the future :(

Londoner 10-16-2009 10:22 AM

Wow, wtf? I don't blame him i guess, its not the company it used to be when he was really on top of his game.

Afterlife 10-16-2009 10:31 AM

There goes the Money.

WWE's official press release would suggest not - Vince has been quoted in an official capacity saying he's 'saddened but proud..'

Personally I'm actually quite shocked. But you have to ask the question why. There will be something behind this....

Afterlife 10-16-2009 10:39 AM

There must be.

Sixx 10-16-2009 10:40 AM

My favourite of the whole McMahon clan.

The Mackem 10-16-2009 10:42 AM

Maybe he wants to start his own promotion...

Could be his desire for MMA involvement got the best of him.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-16-2009 11:20 AM

At least I don't need to see an overweight middle aged Shane McMahon doing his best to outshine the wreslters anymore.

What Would Kevin Do? 10-16-2009 11:27 AM

I'm assuming either A. Shane has something planned, or B. There was a major falling out/dispute over something.

Tron Cadet 10-16-2009 11:32 AM

Mid Life Crisis?

BigDaddyCool 10-16-2009 11:40 AM

TNA is going to sign him.

To be honest, I would fully support him going to TNA and taking over.

The Jayman 10-16-2009 11:40 AM

brother-in-law having more control?

erickman 10-16-2009 11:41 AM

i know his heart was never in the wrestling bussness, thats why steph had a biger role then him, but i am suprised he left all togather. unless he is going to take over another wrestling company like roh.

JT 10-16-2009 11:56 AM

Could be a chance he resigned as well to help work on Linda's campaign.

Rammsteinmad 10-16-2009 12:00 PM

He's probably just got other plans.

Just coz he's been bought up in the wrestling business for the last 30/40 years, there's no reason for him to just suddenly decide 'y'know what? I don't wanna do this anymore'.

Yeah, turns out it's been in local papers in the CT area. Damn. :(

The F.B.I. 10-16-2009 12:25 PM

I perhaps wondering if there isn't another finanical investment endeavor or business venture that has been promoted Shane's way that would allow him to use his resume and overall talents in a more fulfilling and rewarding way that he has not experienced to this point. I would bet there is some underlying motivation and factors behind the decision. In his statement Vince said that Shane will do wonders in whatever further business endeavors he ventures in.

I wonder if that wasn't hinting that there is something Shane wants to get into. Its also hard in my opinion being that 4th generation of male McMahons in the family business and being in that shadow of his dad and living up to the reputation and legacy that is Vince McMahon.

I think at this point Shane has spent enough time in the family business to perhaps determine that its not what he wants to be his future or be his legacy that defines him. I think its a good decision for him at this point in the middle of his life.

While saddened that he's leaving because i've always enjoyed his comical relief performance in WWE and his role in the WCW Invasion storyline.....I perhaps don't rule out the return of the eldest male heir to the McMahon empire at some point down the road in the future.

Best of luck Shane and hope you end up doing something that suits you and your family well.

kareru 10-16-2009 12:35 PM

perhaps he is going to start up wcw again? maybe wishful thinking on my part, i always thought that shane was under rated as a wrestler and was looking forward to him taking over but now we have no hope guys

screech 10-16-2009 12:40 PM

It would actually be pretty cool if he ended up buying (or signing with and taking over) TNA. If anyone knows how to counter Vince, you'd think it'd be Shane right?

True, but I don't think it'll happen.

Dark-Slicer Diago 10-16-2009 12:47 PM

This is really sad news.

Xero 10-16-2009 01:09 PM

Wow, this I didn't see coming.

I was just saying the other day how Shane could work as Ted DiBiase's manager. :-\

thedamndest 10-16-2009 01:20 PM

Shane has heat.

DrCrawford 10-16-2009 01:20 PM

although highly unlikely, i'd love for shane to take over tna, and give the wwe the competition it needs to be great again. instead of this slump of barely getting by with mediocrity
