Dethklok and Mastodon
 

Last week I saw the Metalocalypse concert featuring Dethklok and Mastodon. This was one of the heaviest/trippiest concerts I have ever witnessed (the fact that I was probably eight beers deep probably helped out a good deal as well).

Mastodon opened up and played for about an hour and a half. They had a screen playing animations based off their latest release "Crack the Skye." I thought they were the most psychedellic band I have ever seen live.

Dethklok was fucking brilliant. The creator of the series played guitar and sang, but was dimmed out because the focus was drawn to the screen playing original animations for the tour.

Has anyone else seen this show?

If you didn't see converge, you're a fucking loser.

Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but do the members of Dethklok look like they do on the cartoon?

The Drummer is Gene Hoglan (sp? ex-Death, ex-SYL), IIRC. He's fucking HUGE.

Ummm. The actual band playing the Dethklok songs is kind of visible, but the focus is drawn to the big screen. The cartoons look just the same, but not the same quality as if you were watching at home (the monitors create a subtle distortion effect). The actual band looked like a bunch of metal/computer nerds...

The creator of the show sang and it blew my fucking mind when he started talking like Pickles, Toki, and Nathan Explosion.

Converge is too rad. I can't stand Mastodon though, they are so boring, in my opinion. Dethklok is awesome though. How did they sound?

They sounded just like on TV/CD but much louder and infinitely more punishing. I guess the only thing missing was Dr. Rockso the Rock n Roll Clown... he does cocaine.
