Jerry Lawler attitude era appreciation

Lawler was amazing back then. He's not bad at all now, but he's just not as fun. That Peoples' Elbow ruled too. Lawler here reminds me of Tazz commentating when Angle was wearing the wig. There was one shot of a hole in the wig and Tazz would scream something like "There's a hole in the wig!" Tazz was also awesome when Al Wilson was around. Mainly due to him making fun of the segments. But this isn't about Tazz... it's about how awesome Lawler was as a heel in the attitude era.

I despised lawler more than any other heel commentator. Evan tho heenan was a heel, he was hilarious. Lawler was just a straight up asshole. Was amazing at getting heat from a crowd.

And no, lawler IS bad now. He's not even a shell of what he used to be.

Him showing up on an ECW show during the original ECW Invasion (1997) was probably one of the best things he did during the Attitude Era since it came out of no where and gave that "feud" a nice ending to it.

Lawler is bad no only because Jerry Lawler can't be Jerry Lawler....most of his material is written and prescripted for him....not to mention the PG rating forces him to try and dig for humor....its not really his fault...its more WWE's current direction and that his material is made for him

As this site's self-proclaimed biggest Lawler mark, I approve of this thread. I do so miss "Uncle Jerry"'s wink wink nudge nudge comments, though.

Yeah, butHe's been bad for a while now. Long before the pg-13 changeover.

yeah and did you think to note that WWE Creative and their writers have been scripting his material for the latter part of the last 2 years....so guess that didn't have any affect on him and his so called "sucking" now did it.

Yeah, I'm disappointed that Lawler has basically been reduced to stupid one-liners, such as "puppies!", etc., and that stupid laugh of his, and I hate that Michael Cole with him on RAW only seems toi exacerbate the situation by trying to force Lawler to come up with something witty to say after a stupid Cole-ism. How many fucking responses can there really be to "Vintage (move/wrestler/pay-per-view event/etc.)!"? Not too terribly fucking many, one must assume.

his rants on Mae Young and Moolah were golden. I remember watching the 1999 Survivor Series and that women's tag team match I could not stop laughing. Even though the match only lasted about 2 minutes I was paying attention to Lawler more than I did the match

I agree with the kids above.... PG has not beenas kind to the King... Attitude Era Lawler was the best...

Pre-Attitude Lawler was better.

And, by the way, it was TV PG then too.

Puppies got old really, really fast, he was a creepy pervert regarding every female on the roster, and has continued to be ever since. Lawler has been worthless ever since he stopped being a heel.

I used to love Heel Lawler....back when he had his fued with Bret Hart...I marked out when he cracked him with the scepter at the 93 KOTR....and I loved it when he poured booze down Jake Robert's throat.

Not to mention also I think Lawler got the best heel heat i've ever seen when he invaded ECW at November to Remember and cracked Tommy Dreamer in the skull. I don't think anyone ever expected Lawler to step foot into that Bingo Hall considering how much the fans in ECW hated him and how much he hated the promotion
