Heels and Facial Hair
I'm watching the Rise and Fall of WCW and just noticed that when a wrestler would turn heel he would find the need to grow facial hair. For example, when Chris Jericho was a face he was baby faced and clean shaven. Once he turned heel, he grew the Amish-looking sideburns. When Bischoff sided with nWo he had the 5 o'clock shadow going on. When Nick Patrick became a heel nWo ref, he found the need to grow a goatee to justify his heel turn.
Post other instances of heels growing facial hair. I hope Batista gets the urge to grow a Ho Chi Minh goatee. |
Hulk Hogan already had a blonde mustache as a face, but he added a black five o'clock shadow upon his heel turn.
|
these wrestlers are just so upset by their circumstances that shaving becomes an arbitrary task. yeah they may run some clippers over it to keep it in check, but putting razor to skin is just out of the question.
and abt took the only example i could think of without actually thinking. |
For the record, I did draw goatees on my wrestling toys when they became "bad guys".

Are you kidding?

Mike Knox?
Triple H kind of did the opposite, but he changes his facial hair 24/7. |

Mike Knox had facial hair upon his debut and he's never been a face. He just grew a lot more.

Scott Steiner had a goatee for a short period of time before turning heel, but then decided to bleach it to signify his change.

Punk has stopped shaving his chest and beard.

beards are so bad ass

I don't watch TNA but what about Kurt Angle?
Did he join The Main Event Mafia, then grow his hair and that beard? :wtf: http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/169/anglebeard.jpg |
Wooly Willy.

Didn't Buff Bagwell grow the goatee only after breaking up the American Males?
|
HHH lost his mutton chops as a face.
I think a face with mutton chops could be big. |
Styles when he turned heel the chest hair and 5 o clock shadow became more noticeable.
|
I think Stone Cold might have been one of the few times that hasn't occurred since as the Ringmaster he was usually clean shaven and then as Stone Cold he usually had facial hair regardless if he was a face or heel. Then again, Stone Cold was more of a tweener style character.
If Vince McMahon counts, then that's another instance when he wrestled never had facial hair. |
Didn't Albert/A-Train shave his back after he did the face turn and became the Hip-Hop Hippo?

Well that's not something to write home about.
Anyways, when Taker became the megaheel in 99, he continued this trend with a sick goatee. http://phenomforest.com/other/scc/wp...strytwo6x4.jpg |
That's a badass picture of 'Taker.

His tattoos are all faded now. They used to be so vibrant.

I've only just come to this conclusion, but I guess the growing of a beard after a heel turn is quite literally the guy no longer being a babyface (no hair on the face, like a baby).
When I think of heels growing beards I always think of Owen Hart. Mainly cos of Jason Sensation's line "I wanted to be a heel, but I couldn't get by damn beard to grow in!" (or something similar). |
"I tried to be a tough guy, but I just couldn't grow my damn beard in!"
