Does this mean no more PGWWE?

Quote:

WWE has issued a filing with the SEC, formally announcing that Linda McMahon has resigned from WWE. The statement reads…

On November 6, 2009, Linda E. McMahon resigned as a Director of the Company due to the continuing demands on her time resulting from her campaign for the United States Senate, representing the State of Connecticut.

Xero 11-10-2009 11:22 PM

LOL, no.

If you think she's the ONLY reason they're PG you're sadly mistaken. It makes sense from a business standpoint because those two simple letters attract more advertising by default.

Kane Knight 11-10-2009 11:25 PM

LOL. Riiiiiiiight.

Weird because most of the guest hosts and commercials I see are for more "mature" audiences.

Dorkchop 11-10-2009 11:37 PM

WWE are probably trying and rid themselves of all the negative press they always seem to get every year. The guest hosts are their way to get everyone from different medias (like football, nascar, silver screen) to tune into their program. Blah blah blah. Linda doesn't have anything to do with it.

That's really just the vague gist of it. There are a lot more reasons why they're PG right now.

As much as it sucks, they're going to be PG for a while. They'll go back to TV 14 (or whatever it's rated these days) at some point.

Indifferent Clox 11-10-2009 11:42 PM

I think Raw should be PG or whatever, ECW should be MA and smackdown, tv14.

give everyone something.

Kane Knight 11-10-2009 11:57 PM

I wonder if they think this will stop people from slamming Linda with WWE footage in her political ventures.

Yeah, take the show that's on at a more child-friendly time, with a larger child audience, and a broader base and make it the TV 14 show. I can see you put a lot of thought into this.

Wow, you really take everything seriously, don't you? Chill out, it was't a specific, precise set of instructions that WWE should follow to the letter.

Remove stick from ass, then post.

Emperor Smeat 11-11-2009 02:53 AM

, nah earliest they might consider changing back from a PG style WWE would be after Linda's election results. If she looses and decides to quit politics, then no need to continue to force a PG rating since it doesn't hurt her chances anymore.

Although if she were to somehow win, then WWE might stay PG focused even longer just so any future re-election races don't involve her opponent using the WWE as a point against her.

Of course this is only focusing on Linda McMahon's political career and not anything financial related to WWE or if any future competition threatens WWE like how WCW managed to do back in the 1990s.

Mr. Nerfect 11-11-2009 09:25 AM

If the WWE broke the PG thing, political opponents of Linda are still going to use it. Vince won't let anything that can be used against Linda pop up in the present day. And besides, Linda's career is not the sole reason for the PG shift.

I still think that a PG WWE is ridiculously stupid. I doubt it's going to change, though. Not until the well runs dry with it; the audience grows up, and Vince can make a lot of money by having his programming do the same.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-11-2009 09:42 AM

People are putting way too much of the blame on the TV PG rating for the reason the current product isn't great. Changing the shows back to TV 14 isn't going to make the writers understand character development. And it's not going to eliminate stupid ideas. Instead of Hornswoggle you get Al Wilson, Mae Young's hand baby, and Katie Vick.

Good wrestling is good wrestling. You can't hide bad wrestling and bad ideas by saying "ass" on tv more.

QFT

TV-14 isn't going to magically make the writers good. The ONLY downside is the lack of blood, and even with that, people are putting WAY too much emphasis on it. Yes, it adds to a match but it is in no way a REQUIREMENT.

I disagree if the whole script was replaced by the <s>wrestlers</s> entertainers saying "ass" it would be a step up.

i agree slightly

if barney the dinosaur suddenly said 'ass' i think that would be pretty entertaining, i know its not exactly the same but you see my point, anyways is dixie 'Nostradamus' carters' predictions are true then wwe would be forced to step it up just like the start of the attitude era

Haze 11-11-2009 12:17 PM

To answer the question at hand.

No.

No, I don't see your point. You're saying that wrestling's entertainment value comes from swears?

Oh, you're the CZW/Deathmatch nut. Nevermind.

But no, wrestling can be good, even great with a TV-PG rating. It just depends on who their target audience is. Right now, their target audience isn't us so it's moot.

They could easily book a great product under TV-PG. They just happen to book for the easier audience. It's a short-sighted mistake at best.

I hear next week John Cena is turning heel.

By Ryan Clark on Wednesday, November 11th, 2009 at 4:25 PM EST

– The latest issue of WWE Magazine has Mickie James giving advise on a male reader’s query to convince his girlfriend to e-mail him nude photos of herself. Here is her response: Q: This is gonna sound pervy, but how do I convince my girlfriend to e-mail me nude photos of herself? Mickie: “There are probably many reasons why a woman wouldn’t want to e-mail nude photos of herself. Is she shy? Can you be trusted? Try introducing her to the artistic side of nudity. Wait two weeks and then shoot her a text reading, “You should send me a nude photo of yourself.” Who knows, she might be receptive to it!”

Yeah, the WWE product screams PG right there.

DaveBrawl 11-11-2009 04:42 PM

Nice to see Mickey read my letter. Now if she'll just do as I ask.

No, she's always saying she wants to see a ring first...something about a cow and getting free milk.

She just won't put out.

thedamndest 11-11-2009 07:20 PM

She's put on a little weight, but cow?

I hear that Necro Butcher is quite the mat technician compared to a CM Punk, Christian Cage, or Chris Jericho....he def needs to be on that list of people that Vince can sign and put over as a main eventer....Impaling yourself on lightbulbs, thumbtacks, and glass every night is a sure fire way to get to be WWE Champion versus using actual wrestling talent.

Tb1 11-11-2009 11:43 PM

Not even close.

Juan 11-11-2009 11:44 PM

I wish this thread would go away.

Phenomenal 1 11-12-2009 12:01 AM

I too wish the same...perhaps juan you could make it happen

Phenomenal 1 11-12-2009 12:01 AM

you could use your super "you can't see me" mod powers to make it disappear

I'm assuming you mean entertaining wrestling, because they managed to hide bad wrestling quite often in the Attitude Era.

While I agree just making things darker is not going to make it better, I did want to point out that a lot of what makes wrestling "bad" currently came to be as a direct result of PG-ifying it. Killing PG alone wouldn't really bring us back to good booking or storytelling, But the mindset that's behind the PG attitude certainly needs to go to make things better.

Note, they could still make good family friendly programming, they just don't.

the Jeff Hardy push?

:shifty:

Phenomenal 1 11-12-2009 12:35 AM

big difference there....while Hardy does do the lets destroy my body angle now and again....Necro Butcher's claim to fame is nearly getting murdered everynight in a half assed gore-a-thon that the fans mark on when there is a drop toe hold or something....
