Official Guitar Hero 6 thread.

First song already announced.
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/23/te...for-guitar-he/
Rockers of the classic '80s band Tesla claim to be included in the yet-to-be announced (but you totally saw it coming) Guitar Hero 6. In an interview with Brave Words & Blood Knuckles, guitarist Dave Rude revealed "Modern Day Cowboy" -- from the band's 1986 debut album Mechanical Resonance -- will be included in the music title. Rude noted the song was one of three suggestions the band made to Activision when they were pursued to be included.

Funky Fly 11-26-2009 04:37 AM

Oh, FFS ALREADY?

G 11-26-2009 09:25 AM

fuck off

Fignuts 11-26-2009 12:15 PM

yayyyyyyyyyyyy

Emperor Smeat 11-26-2009 03:51 PM

Not surprised since Guitar Hero is now part of their yearly releases with Call of Duty series. Only good news is they announced weeks ago they will stop releasing too many "expansion" sets like Metalica or Beatles since its killing their overall Guitar Hero sales.

OssMan 11-26-2009 03:56 PM

How are these still appealing

G 11-26-2009 04:07 PM

i dunno. they are fun. i will continue to play every guitar hero and rock band game. i want to give dj hero a shot, but i'm not going to buy it. have to resort to goozex. everyone here should be using that website. i cannot tell you the amount of games i have played because of it. stop trading your shit into gs.

Fryza 11-26-2009 05:04 PM

Jesus. Stay at five and leave it be.

Because there's very little to be innovated that makes a whole new disc worth buying. I haven't bought a GH game since World Tour, but I've bought hundreds of songs from the RB store.

See what I'm saying?

G 11-26-2009 05:46 PM

But listen to what I am saying. As long as they keep letting us import most of the songs for $5 from a stupid code on the manual, which can be obtained numerous ways, let them go to GH9764762 or something. We are the real winners. 50+ songs for $5 beats the hell out of anything the RB store can offer.

Fignuts 11-26-2009 05:48 PM

They bring in enough new stuff to compliment all the new songs, to warrant a purchase imo.

I'm not really tight on money or anything either tho, so whatever.

Funky Fly 11-26-2009 05:48 PM

Gimme a code and we will see.

Bad news is they're now releasing the core games quarterly.

:shifty:

The expansions would be fine if they were something closer to disc based exportable DLC. GHVH is something I only play because I got it free, and GHA was awesome for the ten dollars I paid for it. If I get a good deal on GHM, I'll pobably buy it and give D Mac a chubby. But as full games....They really are hurting themselves with that model, so ditching the expansions is probably good. Yearly? Eh...Probably not so much, but I'm already more or less used to it.

Verbose Minch 11-26-2009 07:08 PM

People actually still buy Guitar Hero games?

Fryza 11-26-2009 07:28 PM

They could just make it DLC and it would be better and cheaper.

It's Activision. They wouldn't still be making them if they didn't see money to be made. Remember, these people dropped a bunch of titles last year, including Brutal Legend and Ghostbusters.

I'm just surprised everybody hasn't moved onto Rockband by now...

Fignuts 11-27-2009 04:47 AM

Theoreticaly, one could play both.

Theoretically, Guitar Hero has sucked since 2, so why waste the time and money?

G 11-27-2009 03:27 PM

Have you played GH5 Verbose Minch?

Verbose Minch 11-27-2009 03:45 PM

Yes sir, I have. Why do you ask?

Fignuts 11-27-2009 04:05 PM

Weird how so many people enjoy playing something that sucks.

Disturbed316 11-27-2009 04:31 PM

Get fucked, just too many GH games out.

Kalyx triaD 11-27-2009 04:33 PM

I don't mind the GH core series. Certain compilations are worth buying (Met, even Smash Hits at a cheap dime). But I never understood the mentality of "why keep making/buying ________". That ignores how game companies and game consumers work.

Funky Fly 11-27-2009 04:47 PM

Well, I like Rock Band's DLC format. Let's me skip the shit I don't want and I will happily buy tracks every week. Seems like the right thing to do for your consumers, but like Activision is gonna do that, amirite?

Kalyx triaD 11-27-2009 04:58 PM

I am also a fan of RB's model. Serves the customer better.

Wait, you're one of the people that thinks that because a lot of people like something, it must be good?

Not that the people who finally put out the games are any better, mind. Both sold well, but markedly below expectations. It's like they only picked up these games expecting a quick buck or something.

Which is a shame. Tim Schafer's fanbase should be sterilised, not encouraged.

Guitar Hero 5 is a pretty damn good game.

If you want a more mainstream answer, look at the songs they put on the discs.

Except Activision's model has been damaging the success of the franchise, as well as the genre itself. I'd say that this goes both to the mentality of "why keep making/buying _________" And also demonstrates why this is generally not how game companies work.

Guitar Hero is not Madden. Most games are not yearly franchises, for that matter. Yearly installments are contributing to a stagnant game environment.

He is a fan of Call of Fratboy Modern Warfare 2.

Funky Fly 11-27-2009 06:26 PM

Not familiar with Tim Schafer's other stuff, but I have heard good things about Psychonauts. I liked Brutal Legend for what it is. A simple action game about metal. Had a blast playing it and I'll trade it in as soon as I finish it because it's nothing mind blowing, but it is fun. EA is another culprit for cash grabs, but they've been doing some things that actually benefit customers for a change. Picking up the aforementioned titles, bonus DLC in Dragon Age/Mass Effect 2, the Rock Band store. It's all been good.

Heard good things about GH5 too, and I'll probably get the game/guitar combo as soon as it's cheap. But yeah, this quarterly bullshit has too go. Not dropping $70 every 3 months for only 5 - 20 songs I'd actually want to play.

Bad enough with games like FIFA, Madden and all those. I prefer the way they did it with the NBA Street series. It's every 2 years, so each game that comes out has really meaningful changes and additions. NBA Street 2, V3 and Homecourt are so wildly different from each other, but they are an EA sports franchise. Scary, I know. That extra year makes a huge difference. Funny thing is, FIFA has Live Season, which for an extra $5 or whatever, you get roster updates throughout the season to reflect roster changes and individual player performances. With things like that, who needs an annual game? Work on improving the engine every 2 years and they'd probably sell better too.

Picked CoD4 GotY edition a while back. Dunno how it is just yet. Still haven't played. Will get back to you.

Kalyx triaD 11-27-2009 06:43 PM

For the record, I don't like yearly installments. Just making a business point.

The Mask 11-27-2009 06:48 PM

i wonder if anyone has bought all this guitar hero stuff over the years and then woke up one day and realized with all the money and time they've invested they could have probably bought a les paul and become quite proficient by now.

Kalyx triaD 11-27-2009 06:50 PM

Are you seriously gonna try for that tired and false dichotomy here and now?

DAMN iNATOR 11-27-2009 06:58 PM

I know that buying a real guitar as opposed to a plastic video game one wouldn't give me a chance of being any good at it. I mean, technically, it would...but I know that lessons would just go to waste on me as I'm not very musically inclined at all, and I'd probably be like, huh, WHAT?

Fignuts 11-27-2009 07:01 PM

Just because it's not as good as rockband, doesn't mean it sucks.

Lets move on.

Pretty sure most of the people who play call of duty would never be mistaken for a frat boy.

Kalyx triaD 11-30-2009 10:29 AM

Somebody uploaded the HHH cover I made in GHWT.

<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UYSDQHjCyDE&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x402061&color2=0x9461ca"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UYSDQHjCyDE&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x402061&color2=0x9461ca" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

I was working on a longer version in GH5 before M$ gave my bro the banhammer. Was 40% done too, the rough rhythm guitar was laid down and everything...

A part of me liked the GH Studio in the WT engine better than the 5 engine. Nothing seems to sound right in 5's library.

DAMN iNATOR 12-01-2009 01:21 AM

Sounded pretty sweet. Sorry to hear you didn't get 2 complete your project as I'm sure it would've turned out awesome.

Of course I'm sure there's probably a shit ton of other users out there who've tried to put together other WWE themes and been stopped short by "the man".

If BL wasn't treated like GOTY material, I might not want to shank its fans.

Doesn't hurt that it was a stupid point, underscored by the failure of that business model in this very instance.

Not everyone can play guitar. Just look at Indifferent Clox. Well, he can play guitar, but not in tune, in time, or in any meaninggul sense.

Pretty much anyone can match colours on a "fretboard" and "strum" along. Unless you're colour blind and have a problem with simple deductive reasoning.

People can play Guitar Hero, even if they lack the dexterity to play a real guitar, have fun, and enjoy themselves. Practicing an instrument you suck at year after year is frustrating and sounds awful. Which reminds me....Where's my keyboard?
