Hofstra shuts down football program
http://www.newsday.com/sports/colleg...gram-1.1635404
I'm not saying that they were ever a powerhouse, but this is sad. Maybe it's a sign of the times. Oh and I was never a Jets fan but Wayne Chrebet was a damn good reciever for his size and ability. Hard working, heart of a lion...etc. It's a shame that the program that produced him is going the way of the dinosaur. |
im sure it has to do with shady stuff or ineligability going on with the program more than just money or title 9

Northeastern is also shutting down their football program after this year. I know almost a whole conference in the lower divisions shut down before this season started as well.
For most schools, football does generate the most money but at same time costs the most to maintain each year. Sort of surprised this never happened as much sooner due to rising costs. |
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

My brother (and I think Jindrak of TPWW) went to Hofstra. Not really surprised that a team like that wouldn't make money. It seemed like the stadium wasn't ever really sold out from what I've seen/heard, and D-1AA teams don't have the giant TV contracts that BCS conferences have.
Still, always sad to see something like this happen. |
Hofstra

They couldn't survive with out Marques Colston..

Hope they don't use Title IX as an excuse, because that's exactly what it is - an excuse. ADs have been using as it an excuse for years to drop sports they no longer want to finance. There's so many ways you can get into compliance with Title IX, don't need to cut any athletic teams at all. It's too bad that people don't realize this and fall for the trap set by the Athletic Directors/universities.

Just remembered that my brother used to work for the Hofstra football team while he was there. He was saying today how when Colston was there you could just tell how sick he was and how much better he was than anybody else. Anyway.

anyone remember Bryan Savage, Hofstra QB?

It's really not inconceivable that the football team just simply wasn't making money. There are lots of expenses: Coaches/staff, facilities, travel, maintenance, equipment, recruiting.
From my experience, Hofstra never had good attendance. The stadium was pretty small and rarely full. And I don't know of any lucrative TV deals from D-1AA. I'm sure a college program like that is largely funded by alumni donations, and just about every industry that relies on charity has struggled lately. |
honestly didn't know Hofstra had a football program

I went to Hofstra and football was never really a big deal. Wonder what use the stadium will have...eh |
