Reformatted a computer, and now...
I have no wireless.
I have this old laptop that I wanted to completely reformat and reinstall Windows on. I didn't have the original disc, so I downloaded XP to put on it (whether that could contribute to the issue, I dunno). So I reformatted and reinstalled and it all went swimmingly. But there is no icon for the wireless network in my Network Connections. I go to devices and there's no wireless card listed, even when I click hidden devices. It's as if it's gone from the computer, but it's not, because it had wireless before I reinstalled everything. Only thing I can think of is that the laptop had taken to running really hot, so maybe the card got fried? But even that doesn't make sense, because the wireless was working before I reinstalled. I dunno if it's a driver issue or what. But I can't find out because I can't even find the card. Help? |
Mine did something similar except it didn't delete the wireless it doesn't recognize the cd drive, or the battery. With mine it's something internal that's fried, at least for the battery (it used to get so hot it would shut off unless it had a fan pointed at it or a bottle of cold water sitting on it). I wish I could help you out, but even with mine I've tried downloading the drivers off the Gateway website and other places and it doesn't change anything.
Maybe try going to the website of the card maker or computer manufacturer and seeing if they have drivers for it. Perhaps they didn't get carried over after the reformat. |
Yeah, try drivers first. Just go to the manufacturer's website and try to find the proper drivers for it.

Gotta agree with trying out the drivers for the wireless network card... from the company's website... and it should work!
Hope for all the best!!! |

Go into the CMOS at startup and see that the onboard devices such as the wireless card are activated and or being recognized first.
