Transformers: The War For Cybertron

Activision makes moves with the license while they can, releasing a new Transformers game for all the 'relevant' consoles. It will be a third person shooter and take place during the initial Cybertron War that started the whole ordeal millions of years ago. It's not based on any existing versions but the 'mood' will be War Within style.

Shaggy 12-09-2009 03:45 AM

So is this Optimus the one that looks almost like a train?

Seems interesting and I will definently give it a play. I like that they are going away from the movie but in curious to see what bots from the movies will make it in the game in order to appeal to the younger audience.

BigDaddyCool 12-09-2009 01:15 PM

Megatron looks too much like Starscream.

Kalyx triaD 12-09-2009 01:35 PM

Just the chest, that's not "too much". Well, I can't say until we see Starscream. Not too fond of the overall style anyway, the mid-section seems feminine (except for Prime).

I would love to see that traitor, though, wonder how he looks.

Also, both factions are playable.

BigDaddyCool 12-09-2009 01:40 PM

No...megatron looks far to much like starscream. He needs to lose the red.

Kalyx triaD 12-09-2009 01:47 PM

He had red in his color scheme historically. I mean, I'm not crazy about his design here, but I don't see him looking like Starscream. His fusion canon is over the top, too.

Just... less than stellar art direction. I'd tell them to go back to the drawing board if I was in charge. I'm just not down with Prime's design in particular. His chest pops out oddly and his 'windshield pecs' are shaped awkward.

Should have got Don Fig to do the designs.

BigDaddyCool 12-09-2009 01:56 PM

Everything is over the top too you.

Yes Megatron has red in his color scheme, but it is the placement of the red. But you don't even like transformers.

BigDaddyCool 12-09-2009 01:57 PM

I'm not a fan of how pointy they made the decepticons.

I've never complained about over the top shit. I love Devil May Cry and it rarely gets more over the top than that.

And yeah, we established long ago that we were both big fans so unless you forgot you're clearly you're going into your bullshit mode trolling thing so I'll start ignoring you after this next one.

Like I said, so-so design overall.

Later.

BigDaddyCool 12-09-2009 03:07 PM

Fag

Shadow 12-09-2009 03:31 PM

So they're combing the Movie designs with Animated Designs and throwing in a touch of G1 to the party eh?

Noyce.

BigDaddyCool 12-09-2009 03:43 PM

I should mention I like the way Soundwave and Ironhide look. Opitmus is ok. I just don't like super point megatron with the red on the wrong parts.

Kalyx triaD 12-11-2009 05:08 AM

The trailer is out, but it's 'show clips of the FMV game intro' bullshit (really tired of that). When an HD vid gets on YouTube I'll post it. Until then:

Confirmed features (with my commentary):

* The game is a 3rd person shooter, with gameplay like Gears of War. So what... Roadie Run? Cover system? Free fire restrictions? What of Gears does it transplant? This is a vague line.
* Cover can be destroyed, fully destructable environments. Cool.
* The backgrounds and backdrops will not be static. (Things will happen in the NPC world, such as energon being transported, machinery working, maybe even cameos). This should be interesting considering the whole destructible environments thing.
* Story missions and Co-op are confirmed--a team of at least three other characters is confirmed. There will also be both multiplayer and single player modes. Co-op never hurts, always helps.
* Three vehicle classes: Tanks, Jets and another unmentioned class. Depending on the classes and your abilities, the levels will be multi-tiered and have different paths. For jets, this means multiple vertical levels to explore. Cool.
* All characters have two different time-based skills (e.g. Shield, invisibility, teleport, etc.). From RotF's engine, eh? It worked well in that game.
* Storyline is one story broken into two interlocking parts, Decepticon Campaign (first half) and the Autobot Campaign(last half). It is an origin story. Pretty sure people are going to bitch about not being able to choose either campaign from the jump. Could help story, though.
* Second level is set to explain Starscream and Megatron's relationship. (The first level was previously confirmed as being the tale of the first meeting of Megatron and Starscream). This I gotta see.
* Many of the G1 actors are coming back to reprise their original roles. A formal announcement will be made at a later date in 2010; however, Peter Cullen is confirmed as Optimus Prime. Fucking awesome.
* Hasbro has said this game is canon. This is a bad idea, but whatever.

Dark-Slicer Diago 01-01-2010 01:22 PM

Sounds intriguing, I'll have to check it out.

Kalyx triaD 01-11-2010 12:58 PM

Well son of a bitch, these fuckers are getting a toyline. Didn't think Hasbro would promote them like that. But that would mean the Hasbro engineers had a hand in the character design... Why then are they so ugly?

Bumblebee's model looks fucking cool. Best design in the game so far. I like that Cybertron itself transforms. And holy shit at Trypticon. Still, not a fan of FMV trailers, and on top of the generally ugh design we have bad VO for Megatron.

For some reason I'm hoping for a new version of the classic theme. This is legitimately important to me.

BigDaddyCool 01-12-2010 02:56 PM

it looks ok, not great.

Kalyx triaD 01-12-2010 03:06 PM

What looks okay? The cutscene?

They're not showing us the goods (gameplay). But I'm betting it'll be better than RotF at the very least. All we have for now are pictures of the in-game graphics engine (unfinished as it is), an FMV game intro, and iffy character design. Hoping we'll get hard news in a month or so.

It would seem the classic transforming sound is in.

BigDaddyCool 01-12-2010 03:07 PM

I don't have to explain myself. I have a grimlock avatar.

Kalyx triaD 01-12-2010 03:09 PM

Grimlock king!

BigDaddyCool 01-12-2010 03:10 PM

Grimlock kick butt.

Shadow 01-12-2010 07:54 PM

Holy fucking shit.

Damn toy Prime looks better than the bloated game model.

That's Shockwave's model for this game. Like him? Preorder the game and you get him as DLC for multiplayer.

Shadow 02-09-2010 11:45 PM

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN.

Do you really get to fight Omega Supreme? Really?

That's awesome!

Kalyx triaD 02-26-2010 03:35 PM

I suppose he's a boss for the 'Con side. I hope they don't bog it with QTEs.

Kalyx triaD 02-26-2010 04:53 PM

- Although we've heard numorous comparisons to Gears of War, there is no cover system.
- With you playing as either side, the 'Cons won't be demonized, we'll understand their side of the story. The 'Bots won't glorified either, Optimus Prime became leader because nobody else wanted to be!
- You transform with the L3 button, and melee with R3. I like this set up.
- You can jack into, use, and rip off turrets.
- The vehicle types are Jet, Car, and Truck(or Tank). To balance out environmental locomotion, even the ground vehicles will have a hover mechanic.
- Starscream has his Seeker buddies with him. It seems Jetfire was a Seeker as well.
- The campaign can be played with 2 other players, the game will be built with three players max in mind.
- The multiplayer is a big deal to the team, but no specifics were given (Faction War and Capture the Allspark? Maybe not...).

Vicarious Visions is hot at work on a DSi version of War for Cybertron. These guys have been making great TF games for the DS, one of which trumped a console version. So this game is in good hands with these veterans.

Complete with several multiplayer modes, Transformers: War for Cybertron allows gamers to play through story missions with their friends in drop in / drop out online co-op, and also create their own Transformers character for competitive head-to-head multiplayer modes, choosing among four distinct character classes, personalising its look and selecting from a huge variety of weapons, skills and abilities.

Yeah, the red on megatron looks a little out of place, but besides that, those models are awesome. No idea what your problem with them is.

Cause, I like my transformers to look like the original cartoons that I grew up with. Have you never caught on to that?

Dark-Slicer Diago 03-15-2010 04:40 PM

I, too, would've prefered they looked like their G1 counterparts, but they look great none-the-less.

I was talking to kalyx. I already know you are stubborn, and fear change.
