Dante's Inferno
[If there's already a thread on this, I didn't see it, but merge in such a case]
With my talk of action games recently I almost forgot that another action game is throwing it's hat in the gaming landscape. I must admit, when I heard EA was going for an action game, I didn't think they knew what they were getting into. So I waited for gameplay to emerge, and found that Visceral Games weren't half-assing this effort. The demo recently dropped for PS3 and I here's some vid. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XMVGCsInBms&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XMVGCsInBms&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NmUbWzYxTgE&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NmUbWzYxTgE&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BxaB90kdwog&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BxaB90kdwog&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> I heard the game described as a 'Christian God of War' and that description isn't off (or even bad). I'm also intrigued to see another Western attempt of an action title. Yank developers don't do actions games often but we have some to show, the God of War series and Origins Wolverine being very good takes of the concept. We also made WET, but Japs did Ninja Blade so we're square. Animation is smooth and I'd love to try out the controls. The moves look good if not out of place (Shaolin staff style? Okay). LOL at the holy cross weaponized, but that's fitting at least. PS3 owners check it out and sound off. |
Lame as fuck.

Greatest Christian videogame ever.
Gameplay wise, it is definitely a GOW ripoff.

If slayer isn't doing the sound track I don't care.

I am interested in this.

I have read all of Dante's work. I am interested to see how they bring it to life or try to adapt it. Not so excited about the gameplay tho.

Played the demo last night, it wasn't bad by any means. Gameplay wasn't really any different to God Of War or games in that vain as people have mentioned although I came out of the game feeling like it should just be renamed "Boobs and Christian Imagery"
Keep picturing a game about Devil May Cry's Dante.
Played the demo the other night...
When I first used the projectile attack and realized it was a cross I right away started yelling "The Power of Christ Compells you" every time I used it... As far as game play....pretty much God of War with a staff. I will definently play the full version when it hits but probably wont buy it. The God of War feel makes me believe that I will beat it in about a day and probably never get to play it again for another year or so. |

Played the demo. Pretty badass.
The demo was pretty cool. Cross attack was retarded. Story's kind of retarded. Action's pretty cool. Tits look fucked up.
Enjoyed the demo quite alot, will probably end up getting this.
One of the few games I am interested in picking up. I'm going in with low expectations, so I'm just expecting a fun game with some stark imagery. Hopefully this allows me to be blown away.
The demo was badass.
It would seem that there will be DLC that brings in an online co-op mode. The last action game to have that was Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma (and I've yet to try that out). I applaud the introduction of co-op in action games, been wanting that for a while.
Picked this up today, loving what I've played so far. Just entered Lust, seen alot of boobies already.
Played the demo last night. Gotta have the full version now.
Gonna be $40 at Target this week. FYI.
After extensive playin I can say this isn't half of God of War and offers nothing new to the table. Most clones at least try to do something new, this one is perfectly content doing nothing new...at all.
If it works, it works. The VG industry is one of the few places where derivative works are completely acceptable due to that giving players more choice. Perhaps someone doesn't like GoW's themes and would find a "Christian God of War" more appealing. Rip-off gameplay for sure, but a new theme is all that's needed to court other players.
...yeah whatever...
...yeah...whatever with that...
Okay.
gotta agree with Destor on this. Darksiders was f'ing awesome, not just because it was hack n' slash God of War gameplay, but the art style was different (and good) and the puzzles were very Zelda like.
This, on the other hand, has no shame in jacking God of War and just being like 'alright, lets print this baby and make some money!'. So, youll like it, but only because you like God of War. |
exactly. and GoW does do it better for the record. (the game isn`t bad tho.)
Bayonetta > All that yank shit
still haven`t played it...if the commercials would show some game i`d be more punped...
Did someone actually say Darksiders was good?
Forget 'Zelda-like'. Toss in a feature or two from God of War, with MOST of the features from Zelda, and you had Darksiders. The game was a clone, minus the good storytelling of Zelda and the fun of Zelda. Pretty horrible 'puzzles', tbh. Which is pretty bad when like 80% of the game is spent running around aimlessly trying to do 'puzzles', and the rest was actual combat. |
At least Dante's Inferno had the mindless/endless killing that God of War had. It had variety of moves, and the combat was fast paced and fun.
They got the best parts of the game they were trying to copy... Darksiders just took features, and tried to make the gameplay their own, but then didn't even give you enough of the gameplay to be satisfied. |

One of the big things that's kept me from this game is that most people say the first half/third/whatever is good, then the rest just drops off. The demo was fun, I just wasn't exactly glued to my seat by it, and finding out that a near consensus is they just gave up halfway through helped deter me. Though there have been a couple sales on the game which almost bagrain binned it, so.... Quote:

THEIR FUNDS WERE LIMITED

i dunno just beat it i wouldn`t it gets worse as you go i`d say it gets better. when i 1st turned it on i HATED it. once you start actually getting some moves and a variety of enemy types it gets decent. the story is amazingly lazy tho. which i find ironic.
Just beat this game. No clue wtf the story was about other than i sinned, this bitch sold her soul to the devil, and somehow i face my sins which is what satan wanted to get out of his prison.
Got almost every achievement except like one, which irks me...no chance im playing the entire game again to get it. And metacritic says Darksiders got an 83...so needless to say im not the only one who enjoyed Darksiders. |
