24-karat gold PS3 anyone? (They're ONLY $4,999...)

What do you get the gamer who has everything?

Answer: this 24-karat gold-plated Playstation 3, which comes complete with two matching controllers and a one-year warranty.

You might want to consider a second mortgage first, though: pricing starts at (yes, starts at) $4999. And we thought the PS3 was expensive when it launched at $500.

If that doesn't quite do it for you, the same supplier also offers a mighty snazzy gold-and-black Blackberry Tour 9630, starting at a mere $899.

There's that worrying "starts at" again. The menu also includes platinum-plated iMacs -- no home's complete without one -- and promises a jewel-encrusted limited-edition PS3 will be on sale in a few weeks.

If even those aren't exclusive enough, check out this gold NES cartridge, which sold back in July for a staggering $17,500. Now that's what we call bling.

whoa that's ridiculous. every rapper will have one now

I don't know if a metal surface is such a great idea on a PS3.

Yes, I'm ignoring the completely excessive nature of a gold plated PS3.

I'm much more interested in the gold-plated NES cart which you didn't fucking link.

That's not gold, it's just pained gold.

too bad games are dis(c)ks now

Kane Knight 12-12-2009 02:22 PM

Why? you can have gold discs.

I bet you can even coat the optical surface gold. they do it almost every other colour.

There is such things as gold discs but its more of the master copy that is used to create the other copies of games and then stored in the company's gaming vault or where ever they placed finished games.

Dude, I ripped the article from Yahoo! Gimme a break.

Xero 12-12-2009 06:43 PM

Well thanks for linking the source.

I think every copy of Majora's Mask was gold. One had a holographic picture though.

Xero 12-12-2009 07:52 PM

Mine's gray.

Only gold cart I've ever owned was Bee 52.
