Raw is SCREW UP!!!! (guest host spoilers) How would you do it?

No, no, no, I'm not talking about how Denis Miller called Triple H "The Show."

So, let me see if I have this right...
Earlier tonight Vince asked if the crowd was dead because of their lack of response (or something that that effect) and then later on they say the next guest host, when they're in Florida (at least I'm pretty sure they're in Florida), is hosted by a New York baseball player?

In the book Controversy Creates Cash The Bisch says that the fans are watching three things. One wrestler (or team), the other wrestler (or team) and the live crowd.
You would think that the man who revolutionized the entire fucking industry would understand this, right? The guy that says "if a wrestler trips over a camera cable it was meant to happen" (or something to that effect) books a guy from New York to host a Florida Raw, which will look like SHIT on live tv?
If Denis Miller hosted Raw in LA, Chicago, or New York the fans would be off the hook. But, no, they did it in Fuck of all Texas. Hell, not even The Undertaker got a good response.

So, Vince comes up to you, and says you get to book 10 guest hosts in 10 cities.... How would you book who, where, and why?

I'll do my answers tomorrow morning when I'm slightly more with it, and a lot more sober.

Nicky Fives 12-15-2009 08:00 AM

Bret Hart in Calgary would be an obvious one

DancesWithGingers 12-15-2009 08:20 AM

They really just need to stop with all of these guest hosts. I'm becoming embarrassed to let people know that i watch wrestling anymore because of all the dumbasses they have week in and week out. If you are gonna have someone guest host a wrestling show at least pick people who have some knowledge of the business! For example, Mark Cuban = Good host. Jeremy Piven (Summerfest???), Dennis Miller (The Show? WTF) = Bad....

Innovator 12-15-2009 08:26 AM

Lots of Yankee fans in Tampa

Skippord 12-15-2009 08:37 AM

and Johnny Damon is a pretty big WWE fan apparently so he's a good choice

Ermaximus 12-15-2009 09:12 AM

What other option did they have? Hire a Marlins player for the night? I think Damon will do a decent job. Then we get Timbaland next week, and hopefully The Rock on January 4th.

Skippord 12-15-2009 09:28 AM

well most of the Marlins would probably host Raw for food

Haze 12-15-2009 09:57 AM

He is a Yankees player, but resides in Tampa I believe.

Hanso Amore 12-15-2009 09:59 AM

Yeah 450 this point is moot. Damon lives in that area IIRC and the Bosox and Yanks are huge there because of spring training and retired folks.

Yea my dad lives near Tampa. When I'm down there I see just as many, if not more, Yankees fans than Rays fans. Pretty sure the Yanks do they're spring training there too but I could be wrong.

Innovator 12-15-2009 10:19 AM

Yup, spring training in Tampa. Yanks have a field down there

Ermaximus 12-15-2009 10:24 AM

As stated, Damon will do fine. He may botch a few lines or two, but what host hasn't? We may even see him in action, but I doubt it since spring training is a few months away.

screech 12-15-2009 11:32 AM

Yeah, Damon won't get in the ring. Although that would be pretty hilarious.

Seth82 12-15-2009 11:38 AM

would love to Bret Hart come back and host RAW

screech 12-15-2009 11:43 AM

For those who want to pick the guest host based on the city RAW will actually be in, here they are (from http://www.wwe.com/schedules/events/):

1/11: Minneapolis, MN
1/18: Knoxville, TN
1/25: Columbus, OH
2/1: Nashville, TN
2/8: Lafayette, LA
2/15: Des Moines, IA
2/22: Indianapolis, IN
3/1: Oklahoma City, OK
3/8: No event scheduled :?:
3/15: San Diego, CA
3/22: No event scheduled :?:

I'm going to assume this will stop a WM, but just in case it doesn't:

3/29: Phoenix, AZ

I will get to mine later today. Hopefully I did not misread any of those.

BigDaddyCool 12-15-2009 11:43 AM

Shouldn't the Rock be in flordia or Marino?

BigDaddyCool 12-15-2009 11:45 AM

Savio 12-15-2009 12:16 PM

if Bret did it he should be in Toronto, the Stadium there is huge and he would attract a lot of canucks

Supreme Olajuwon 12-15-2009 12:17 PM

Would love if they got Al Franken for the Minneapolis show

Y2Ant 12-15-2009 02:04 PM

Brett Favre/Adrian Peterson for the MN one

thedamndest 12-15-2009 02:14 PM

Columbus, OH - Lebron James

Traiklin1982 12-15-2009 02:23 PM

I think if they are gonna look at tna as any kind of threat they need bret hart for the Jan 4th episode. I dont know about you guys but picking between the live hogan's tna 3
hour show and seing bret hart in a wwe ring again would be a hard choice.

Gerard 12-15-2009 02:43 PM

I think god himelf could have ejaculated into that arena last night and you'd be able to hear a mouse fart over the crowd...

If you're referring to the Rogers Centre (formerly the Skydome) it would be hard to fill regardless of ticket prices in fact I think they've only done RAW in there.

Yes I know thanks for the history lesson and so was Wrestlemania 6 which I'm sure even most fans know but look that's the WWE's biggest PPV not just a regular televised show.

Vastardikai 12-15-2009 06:33 PM

1/11: Minneapolis, MN: Arn Anderson
1/18: Knoxville, TN: Dolly Parton
1/25: Columbus, OH: Drew Carey
2/1: Nashville, TN: Toby Keith
2/8: Lafayette, LA: Down (especially if the Saints win the Superbowl)
2/15: Des Moines, IA: Slipknot
2/22: Indianapolis, IN: Peyton Manning
3/1: Oklahoma City, OK: Somebody from the Thunder, if they're off.
3/8: No event scheduled :?:
3/15: San Diego, CA: Phillip Rivers (? QB of the Chargers)

Dragon 12-15-2009 06:38 PM

First time in the wrestling forum in years but I heard about Damon hosting and was wondering if there was a topic on it.

Are they really letting him talk on the mic? As a Yankee fan I've heard him in a million interviews over the years and he is pretty terrible speaking wise. Like even normal conversation speaking he stutters constantly. Can't really imagine him hosting an event.

Xero 12-15-2009 06:58 PM

Dragon, how have I never seen you before? Are you a name change?

Skippord 12-16-2009 02:44 AM

also Johnny Damon isn't a Yankee right now

They drew 41,000 for a Raw in 1999 but yeah even at the height of popularity they were still 30,000 short of a sellout.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-16-2009 04:33 PM

Also apparently they had 74,000 at the old Exhibition Stadium in Toronto in 1986 for The Big Event.

Where was this?

Also I hope Johnny Damon totally fucks up, and is terrible.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-16-2009 04:52 PM

Rogers Centre/Skydome

McLegend 12-16-2009 04:53 PM

Don't remember that, but it did happen.

If Peyton Manning hosts RAW in Indy, he should get his brother Eli to co-host with him and then they can have a segment where they team up to face the newsest challengers in the Oreo Double Stuff Racing League, Swoggle and Chavo and they have the face off center ring and Chioda can ref it. Vintage and Oh My! quotes galore and ratings will skyrocket.....

KayfabeMan 12-17-2009 08:10 PM

The 1/25 event in Columbus should be hosted by......

OCHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Cinco.

He would totally be great on RAW.
