So I decided to go all pre- 1998 because it's more interesting that way. His classics with Jericho, Angle, Taker and HHH are all pretty fresh in our minds whereas pre 1998 was quite a long time ago and it's cool to see how he developed.


I'm going with his match with Davey Boy as my favourite, though his match with Jarrett is a close second. The heat for the Bulldog match was fucking off the charts, and he really was the fucking man as a dickhead heel and knew how to piss that crowd off. They nearly went into a riot at the end of the match... whereas the Jarret match was great but it was sort of cookie cutter Michaels at the time, which was awesome, just not as awesome as heel Shawn. The psycology and story telling was nearly untouchable. It also helped that in '97 Davey was really back in his late 1980s form, as they talk about saying he lost around 20 pounds, and he was incredibly mobile, AND strong.

I was thinking about doing a Shawn vs. Davey feature and showing their 3 main matches they had, but I had just done the Stampede thread last week.

If the Bulldog match was either their first meeting for the Intercontinental championship from a Saturday Night's Main Event late in 1992 or their Beware of Dog match, I would have gone with either one of those. With these options though, I voted Shawn v. Jarrett. Good match, that was.

HBK and davey Boy have had some classic matches.

I just watched the beware of dog match... and the one night only match was way better in terms of heat... and I'd say action as well. Beware of dog they sort of went through the motions until the "controversial" finish which was the entire point of the match.

Yeah, but I just really enjyoed that feud. Either way, the SNME match is still my favorite, and nobody ever talks about it. It was HBK's first Intercontinental title win.

Yeah I was torn between putting that one in and putting the one night only. The only thing I didn't like about SNME was the fact that Bulldog was juiced as shit, and it hurt his mobility big time. He turned into a pure power wrestler, (a very good one at that but you catch my drift), in '97 however he was a much better worker. Power and speed. That's the best bulldog you'll get.
