Something that made me like Shawn Michaels a little bit more
 

KOTR 1997 against Steve Austin, a special olympics participant jumps over the railing and security fucking jumps on the kid.

Austin has no idea wtf is going on... Shawn seems legit worried and goes over to get the security off the poor little guy. Austin still is confused and goes and starts beating on Shawn, until Shawn can finally escape, embrace the kid and sheppard him to safety.

This was interesting to see for me... because this was 1997 Shawn Michaels... the apparent brash douchebag that we've been led to believe he was... and yet he did something like this. I mean don't get me wrong he was probably a dick but that was the opposite of a dick move.

I mean any decent person would do it, but he was genuinely concerned and was willing to stop the match just to make sure this kid was okay. I could see most wrestlers not giving the slightest fuck, even maybe getting some licks in if the kid got too close, which they've been privy to do on many occasions.


I dunno Shawn impressed me. Neat to see.

Honestly, I think he did it to piss off Vince. Yes, it was a good thing to do, but Vince obviously didn't want to bring attention to it. Instead, Shawn stops the match.

So the plot thickens...

He COULD have just been trying to be a nice guy tho :(

I remember seeing this! I think it was just the right thing to do. I doubt he just did it to piss off vince.

Wrestlers can be dicks but i doubt even the biggest of pricks would take potshots at a kid with downs syndrome

Yeah, but Shawn could have let the security handle it.

Chris Benoit took a few pot shots at a kid with fragile X if memory serves me.

I think it actually helps solidify the face/heel dynamic for the match right from the get-go. Shawn shows that compassion and Austin responds by shooting him the bird and sarcastically welcoming him back into the ring. Therefore I think the kid was a plant.

I remember it... it was cool of him.... but it pretty much was a no-brainer.... if the fan wasn't handicapped Shawn would have probably beat the shit out of him ala Macho Man Randy Savage in WCW
