Sylvester Stallone broke his neck while filming a fight scene in his latest movie.

The veteran action hero had emergency surgery and a metal plate inserted in his neck following the accident on the set of The Expendables.

The 63-year-old actor was filming a fight with wrestling co-star Stone Cold Steve Austin, 45, in the upcoming movie, but it was so realistic that Stallone ended up with a hairline fracture in his neck.

Austin was able to taunt the crowd and the referee, buying time until Stallone could roll him up with a schoolboy for the Intercontinental Championship.

I still think Owen should have just won that match. I guess they didn't know the severity of the injury at the time, but it just would have made more sense, I think.

Subsequently, Austin fell to his death shortly after the incident due to a faulty harness in a scene featuring Austin as a superhero.

Man.....what is with wrestlers and neck injuries on the sets of movies.

I've been a Stallone fan my whole life, and this happens to him a lot actually on his movies. He's really into being realistic. He got hurt while doing Rocky, First Blood, Rocky III, Rocky IV, Lock-Up, Get Carter....those are the only ones I can think of at the top of my head.

I was an extra in "Rocky Balboa" back in the winter of 2005, and I remember he kept telling Tarver.....

"Okay kid, I need you to REALLY hit me...."

*hits him*

"No Kid, I REALLY need you to hit me.

*hits him a little harder*

".....No kid......I REALLY, REALLY need you to hit me."

He finally got his wish, and Sly was happy.
