WCW's dying days

Pick one match from WCW's dying days from '99 to '01.

I am going with Cruiserweight Triangle Ladder Match from Starrcade 2000

A match you really enjoyed.

Nark Order 01-11-2010 02:29 PM

Just got the Starcade DVD, eh?

Nark Order 01-11-2010 02:31 PM

And what are we picking a match for? A match that we liked? A match that was fucking awful? Come on here, guy.

Kane86 01-11-2010 02:31 PM

Well I have the match on the Ladder Match DVD as well. Its the best match for there Dying days any other match is just a big botchfest.

Yeah, everything seemed pretty awful in that time period where Nash was in charge. I seem to remember a match between Nash and Savage for the belt that I didn't think was absolute shitfest, other than that I don't have much of a memory for it.

kareru 01-11-2010 02:36 PM

]even in the dying days of wcw they still got equal or higher ratings than monday night raw gets now

Two of my favorite matches period.

The Mackem 01-11-2010 03:38 PM

That Thunder battle royale. Massive cluster.

Kane86 01-11-2010 03:52 PM

I really did enjoy the Cruiserweights back then. They were one of the main reasons to keep watching back then.

The Jayman 01-11-2010 03:54 PM

yeah the wcw cruiserweight division was top notch

parkmania 01-11-2010 04:18 PM

Ya know, we rip on WWE for horrible names on PPVs, but WCW had some real clunkers too:

Sin
Greed
New Blood Rising
Mayhem

For the most part yes, but I didn't mind it aside from the ridiculous booking. TNA is the same thing as the end of WCW, there are some pretty good matches but storylines are pretty horrendous. One match that I though was pretty good was 3 Count vs. The Jung Dragons at New Blood Rising in a Ladder Match.

True the names were horrible, but I actually liked those events. Sin will only be known for Sid Vicious's leg injury, in my opinion the worst injury to ever happen in the ring. I mean Owen Hart eclipses everything of course ( Damn the Blue Blazer gimmick) but that injury just disgusted me and I still have trouble watching it, just imagine if that was one of us. Greed was the last WCW PPV and not really that bad to be honest watch Jason Jett (EZ Money) vs. Kwee Wee great opening match. New Blood Rising is one of my favorites from the end of WCW. Mayhem I liked because Bret Hart and Scott Steiner won their first World Heavyweight Championships at this event.

Rammsteinmad 01-12-2010 03:58 AM

During the first half there was a great batch of cruiserweight matches involving people like Rey Mysterio, Billy Kidman, Juventud Guerrera, Psychosis, Blitzkrieg, Mikey Whipwreck etc.

Chris Benoit and Bret Hart's matches.

Lance Storm and Booker T had some good matches in 2000.

Can't think of any right now to be honest, but despite all it's faults WCW did have some great matches towards the end.

The Mackem 01-12-2010 06:55 AM

They looked to be turning the corner, the only problem looking back was that they had to seriously lower their production values so they looked weak in comparison to WWF.

Fox 01-12-2010 05:27 PM

Evan Karagias vs. Jaime Knoble vs. Kaz Hayashi vs. Yang vs. Shannon Moore vs. Shane Helms - Elimination Match for Cruiserweight Title Shot - SuperBrawl 2001

Goldberg vs. Scott Steiner - Fall Brawl 2000

Three Count vs. The Yung Dragons - Ladder Match - New Blood Rising 2000

Booker T vs. Jeff Jarrett - WCW Heavyweight Championship - Great American Bash 2000

Diamond Dallas Page vs. Mike Awesome - Ambulance Match - Bash at the Beach 2000

PorkSoda 01-12-2010 06:25 PM

The Junkyard match for the hardcore titile.

Nicky Fives 01-12-2010 06:32 PM

Back in the day I though the Triple Cage was the greatest thing ever. If I watched it again now I would probably change my mind. I do remember loving the War Games 2000 match though, although I was 13 at the time.

Kane86 01-13-2010 02:31 AM

See here is the problem with WCW in 2000: Jeffery Jarrett.

DrA 01-13-2010 02:42 AM

Fucking loved WCW Greed.

Like a lot of WCW ideas, the triple cage could have been epic if it hadn't been flushed in the execution.

kareru 01-13-2010 12:35 PM

anyone remember this?, i remember watching this and being amazed, my only wrestling viewing at the time was wwf wcw and ecw.

Okay, this may be too obvious a choice, but how about the final match of WCW, Sting vs Ric Flair. That was a good, memorable one.

See this is the problem with WCW at the end, when most of the jobber/try-out matches were better than the main events.

FTR, I remember this match, but mostly for Daniel's botch when he landed on his head. This was the first time I saw something like this and it clicked with me in non-kayfabe like 'holy shit! he fucked up that move!'.
