Better Video Game "#26": Because that Kalyx TriaD thread is annoying

Going head to head with the "16 bit era" I guess. Super Mario World vs. Sonic 2, which is considered the best Sonic game on Genesis.

Platformer's Delight!

The Jayman 01-19-2010 01:10 PM

hands down Super Mario World

Fignuts 01-19-2010 04:07 PM

Super Mario World

Was a tough one though. Sonic 2 is all kinds of awesome.

G 01-19-2010 04:12 PM

Sonic 2 is why I rented a Genesis from Blockbuster so many times. Also rented the 32x for Doom. :D

Emperor Smeat 01-19-2010 10:24 PM

Super Mario World but both games are good regardless of the results.

Those 2 games are probably the pinnacle of the Mario-Sonic character war in the 16-bit era.

Kalyx triaD 01-19-2010 11:02 PM

What?

Super Mario World easy.

Fryza 01-20-2010 12:24 AM

SMW was the best of the Mario series, while Sonic 2 is Sonic...

Lock Jaw 01-20-2010 12:27 AM

No Sonic game can even touch Super Mario World.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-20-2010 04:48 AM

Sonic 2

You guys clearly huff paint

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-20-2010 07:05 AM

Yeah we huff the paint that comes from StarWorld, which is probably one of the greatest challenges in video game history.

How many times did you die in Totally Tubular?

Super Mario World wins!

#BROKEN Hasney 01-20-2010 07:29 AM

Not too many, I'm pretty good at Mario. Did get the wrong exit a couple of times though.

But SMW had no Blast Processing!!

NoRoolz 01-20-2010 09:17 AM

Sonic 2, standard.

"tubular" was the level, "totally tubular" is a phrase from rocket power

the hardest level on star road was Outstanding though

Kane Knight 01-21-2010 11:30 AM

Mario World. Sonic isn't even close.

The Mackem 01-21-2010 11:38 AM

Good job Assman

screech 01-21-2010 11:40 AM

While I don't think that Super Mario World is the best of the Mario series, I am picking it here.

Tough decision for me though, as I still enjoy playing both games.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 01-24-2010 06:54 AM

I was never a Mario fan.

The Gold Standard 01-24-2010 02:50 PM

Sonic 2 is one of my favorite games of all time.

Jeritron 01-25-2010 04:13 AM

Oh shit. Crazy matchup.

Mario World is clearly the better game from a logical standpoint, and incredibly awesome. It's hard to vote against Sonic 2 though, because it's also one of my favorites from the same time, and packs just as much nostalgia.

Gonna have to go with Mario World, but it's on a short list of games that beat out Sonic 2 for me

I never had an SNES, so Sonic 2 easily for me. :'(

i was wondering who the other person was who bought a 32x. I saw the sales numbers after i bought one, and it was only two.

Gone Mad 02-01-2010 02:46 AM

Easily, Super Mario World.

No game kept me playing over and over like that one did. And the music so memorable.

I had a 98% complete 32X collection.

But I did buy it all second hand so I wouldn't have been included in the sales figures.

Rammsteinmad 02-01-2010 04:18 AM

Super Mario World.

I miss my SNES. :'(

Big Fat Mike 02-01-2010 04:13 PM

U.N. Squadron

Nicky Fives 02-03-2010 06:49 PM

I wasted tons of my childhood youth playing both of these games.... Mario is better

Poit 02-05-2010 07:01 PM

Super Mario World

Hardest. Game. Ever.

Love sonic 2

dablackguy 02-27-2010 11:56 AM

Mario World easy

Sonic had little depth to it...

Run through this level as fast as you can...good job.... do it again and again

As opposed to finding all the levels in Mario World

Kalyx triaD 02-27-2010 03:15 PM

Your definition of depth is shaky. Mario World would be the one with depth and Sonic 2 was pretty straight forward (with some boss-ass bass lines).

That's what he said. "Little" depth as in barely any.

#BROKEN Hasney 02-27-2010 04:04 PM

You know, the Mega Drive had some shit sound hardware compared to the SNES, but Sonic Team knew how to work that and I'd take the soundtrack of any Sonic above any SNES games.

Can't actually think of another MD game with a good sountrack tbh.
