Mortal Kombat movie REBOOT

Bloody Disgusting received word that Warner Bros. Pictures has been looking to redo Mortal Kombat with Oren Uziel in talks to write. Based on Midway's popular 1992 video game, the franchise follows the best fighters from around the globe who are summoned to an island to compete in a tournament whose outcome will determine the fate of the entire planet. Uziel's Shimmer Lake made the 2009 black list, which features the best unproduced screenplays around Hollywood. Johnny Cage was modeled after Jean-Claude Van Damme. No word on the progress of the remake, but we'd like to see a hard "R" version with some actual f*cking fatalities.

They at least better keep the theme.

It's always a challenge to do a movie 13 years after something has hit the peak of mainstream popularity.

D Mac 01-25-2010 08:02 PM

It will always be popular.

Tb1 01-25-2010 08:30 PM

FINALLY

Jeritron 01-25-2010 08:34 PM

Not that popular

D Mac 01-25-2010 08:37 PM

IS

Blitz 01-25-2010 08:37 PM

I am down for this, as much as I adore the first Mortal Kombat.

Juan 01-25-2010 08:43 PM

This is fantastic news

Buzzkill 01-25-2010 08:59 PM

Wow I have absolutely no interest in this at all lol

PorkSoda 01-25-2010 09:06 PM

So what?

It will most likely flop like a pancake. First one was good for the fight scenes, second one was good for.......:|

Skippord 01-25-2010 11:05 PM

Ray Park should probably play every part and fight himself

Kalyx triaD 01-25-2010 11:09 PM

They really should go the Tekken route and get qualified action/martial artists. Unknowns, too. Good luck getting an R rated feature.

The Mask 01-25-2010 11:11 PM

holy crap just watched the youtube video, the fights were so shite. i loved the film as a kid too.

but yeah, this really doesn't need to be made. it was niche enough at the time, now i'd wager about 10 people will see it.

Juan 01-25-2010 11:11 PM

I will def be one of those 10 people.

Kalyx triaD 01-25-2010 11:14 PM

Tony Jaa for Kung Lao.

Jeritron 01-25-2010 11:18 PM

Yea they should def copy the Tekken movie if they want this to be successful in any way....

Kalyx triaD 01-25-2010 11:21 PM

MK has a better mythology than most (all?) fighting games, story wise they have an edge. Action wise... much as changed in the action landscape. It would serve them well to go the Tekken route.

:foc::foc::foc::foc::foc:

The Cage/Scorpion fight was and still is epic.

D Mac 01-26-2010 12:26 AM

The Reptile/Liu Kang fight was badass too.

Blitz 01-26-2010 12:34 AM

Honestly, and it's weird to say for an adaptation of Mortal Kombat of all things, but the fact that they didn't just cast for fighting prowess, and didn't just worry about the fights, is what made the first movie so enjoyable. Yeah the leads had martial arts experience, but they were actors too, and fully realized the characters. Tell me for one second that the movie would've been as good if Johnny Cage was played by Random Karate Stuntman #3 instead of Linden Ashby.

Shadow 01-26-2010 04:20 AM

NO! BAD BAD WB!

Jon Kano 01-26-2010 06:23 AM

See this reboot idea makes sense; rise in martial arts films & popularity, video game films are getting better (Street Fighter: Chun Li excluded), larger fan base since more games have come out, it's been over 10 years....

Thing is, I really liked Robin Shou, oh well.

Just make it happen, ok.

DaveBrawl 01-26-2010 08:08 AM

So if Johnny Cage is based off Van Damme can Van Damme play Cage in the new movie? :shifty:

The Jayman 01-26-2010 08:24 AM

god i hope so. this could be your big break Dave

Sixx 01-26-2010 08:27 AM

I shall play Scorpion.

Kalyx triaD 01-26-2010 08:59 AM

If they have any since Scorpion will be played by Chris Cassamasa and voiced by Ed(iot) Boon.

Ray Park should play Sub-Zero and he needs to use swords or some shit at least once.

Ermaximus 01-26-2010 09:11 AM

If I hit that split punch it's all over....for me.

The Jayman 01-26-2010 09:15 AM

you must perfect it Dave. it is your destiny. you are the chosen one

LuigiD 01-26-2010 09:23 AM

Mortal Kombat is so 1995.
But seriously..this is good news. I hope they do a good job. That fucking Street Fighter movie was so awful. The first Mortal Kombat movie was one of the few decent video game films out there.

Sixx 01-26-2010 09:30 AM

I have just learned that Ray Park was in the first MK movie.

I should do it, just as a conversation starter if nothing else.

The Jayman 01-26-2010 09:37 AM

chicks might dig it

El Vaquero de Infierno 01-26-2010 09:39 AM

Fuck all this reboot shit.

Reavant 01-26-2010 10:16 AM

cypernetic smoke in the second one was pretty sweet

Yea, he had a role in the second MK movie. I just found out he played Chuck Norris in The Legend of Bruce Lee.

If so, then he just needs to also be in a Tekken movie.
