Vince McMahon to Address the Future of ECW Tonight

From PWInsider:

World Wrestling Entertainment announced that on tonight's episode of ECW, Vince McMahon will appear to "address the future of ECW."

As we broke in the PWInsider.com Elite section back on 11/30/09, WWE and SyFy have been discussions for some time about changing the format and identity of the ECW series. SyFy has been unhappy with the ratings slide of the 2.8 when the series debuted in 2006 to it's current rating in the area of 1.0. There are also some with the network who were upset they were sold on a self-sustaining spin-off product and instead ended up with a lower level WWE series.

There is an expectation the ECW name, which WWE brought back from the dead in June 2005, will be put to rest and the new incarnation of the Tuesday night series will focus on newer names.

Jeritron 02-02-2010 05:44 PM

Maybe they'll move a few decent names there and make it count.

I mean, now that I think of it, it is pretty awful that they did that to the network.

I don't really have problems with the fact that ECW is a lower level show in the grand scheme of things WWE-wise. But it's fucked up that it started off as more or less an equal brand with main event stars and WWE went and altered the deal.

screech 02-02-2010 05:53 PM

I'd like to see a legit third brand, rather than a "breeding ground" for main-eventers. I do like how the the show displays new talent, but it would be cool to see a third side to the "brand wars" rather than having them latch on to RAW or SD or whatever.

Droford 02-02-2010 05:55 PM

they need to dig Styles out of his basement office for one last "OH MY GOD"

also cant wait for a new DVD

This deal keeps getting worse all the time!

Team Sheep 02-02-2010 06:00 PM

3 main brands is too much, it's fine as it is. Just ditch the ECW letters and keep a similar show going for the talent initiative.

Jeritron 02-02-2010 06:00 PM

pray I don't alter it further

Jeritron 02-02-2010 06:01 PM

Anyways, the future of ECW will have to wait. Tonight is LOST

He's going to announce that ECW is now called the Straight Edge Society Variety Hour. 60 minutes of non-stop CM Punk and pals!

Nicky Fives 02-02-2010 06:29 PM

I see nothing changing but the actual name "ECW"..... everything else will remain the same.....

Evil Vito 02-02-2010 06:34 PM

I think it'll be a bit bigger than just a name change, Tiffany could have announced that herself.

Hopefully it has something to do with Rosa Mendes getting naked.

I would love to hear ECW is going to be disbanded. I really don't see a need for it to be around anymore. If they wanted to promote it as a legit brand, I'd be ok with it. When it first was announced back when, it was actually my favorite brand. Paul Heyman somehow took a batch of mid carders and one or two legit main eventers and turned into gold. Then he left, and even through Bobby Lashley, Morrison, and Punk it was still worthwhile. But it's been in a steady decline. If it weren't for Christian the entire hour would be painful. Even Regal somehow seems sad and out of place there.

I say close down operations on ECW. Have the DRAFT this year be entirely on drafting ECW guys (gives them a sense of importance as they're reintroduced to the fray, and it's not like WWE is strict about keeping anyone on one particular show these days anyway). Have Superstars be a mix of both rosters and quit stretching yourself so thin.

Just my two cents.

TOVO Fact: Tovo loves Scrubs.

dronepool 02-02-2010 08:12 PM

I'll watch it because of Vince, but yeah I currently HATE the formula and I don't mean the lack of wrestlers really, they could use a few better guys but I mean they have like 2 matches and 30 minutes of replays and stupid segments. Why have an hour show just to waste so much on recaps and replays? Isn't that what Superstars is supposed to be?

Juan 02-02-2010 08:24 PM

I really hope the show stays around in some capacity. Probably the best hour of wrestling in WWE, hands down.

Anybody Thrilla 02-02-2010 08:39 PM

I dunno, I think SmackDOWN! has the best wrestling. ECW still has some good matches, though. Christian has been tearing it up.

Xero 02-02-2010 08:45 PM

From PWInsider:

Sources in WWE just confirmed the ECW on SyFy series will indeed go forward under the name WWE NXT, with NXT standing for "Next Generation."

Anybody Thrilla 02-02-2010 08:48 PM

I wonder if they'll still have a championship.

Oh I agree, Smackdown is better, but they have 2 hours to work with.

Anybody Thrilla 02-02-2010 08:49 PM

I thought we were just talking about the actual matches.

Juan 02-02-2010 08:53 PM

ECW has the best ONE HOUR of wrestling. Smackdown has the best TWO HOURS of wrestling.

Theo Dious 02-02-2010 08:54 PM

I don't really care what they call or do with the show, what becomes of the ECW title is of interest to me.

Who's NXT??? - Goldberg

Anybody Thrilla 02-02-2010 08:57 PM

Are they just going to put FCW on TV?

Dorkchop 02-02-2010 09:01 PM

Maybe they`ll put it on at a decent hour in Canada

Schlomey 02-02-2010 09:25 PM

i love ecw

James Diesel 02-02-2010 09:44 PM

Tune in to Tuesday Night FCW at 10E on SyFy

Droford 02-02-2010 09:51 PM

It would be great if they stopped taping it prior to Smackdown as well and gave it an original, kinda plain looking set and small crowd.

As far as the WWE NXT thing goes, that is really dumb.

Anybody Thrilla 02-02-2010 09:54 PM

How do you know? They haven't even done it yet.

James Diesel 02-02-2010 09:56 PM

Assumptions based on logic?

(Sounds a lot like WWE's writing)

Anybody Thrilla 02-02-2010 10:15 PM

No it doesn't.

Shadow 02-02-2010 10:57 PM

...NXT?

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow.

RatedGSuperstar 02-03-2010 12:25 AM

Well, considering in recent months we've had "Hell in a Cell," "TLC," and we're heading into "Elimination Chamber," I think we should just be lucky that they didn't call it "WWE TV Show."

But seriously..."NXT" is a horrible name. Stop trying too hard to be trendy and just call the damn thing "Next" if that's what you're going for.

Vastardikai 02-03-2010 12:29 AM

He kept making reference to "Evolution," and I'm thinking of the 3 worst things they could do:

3. An extra hour dedicated solely to Randy Orton, Triple H, Batista, and Arn Anderson (filling in for someone else)

2. Cena squashing people who come from FCW and local Indy feds.

1. Hour-long. Abraham. Washington. Show.

Skippord 02-03-2010 12:32 AM

WWE TV Show would be a pretty sweet title

Way to stay with the SciFi theme.
