Possible Problems for WWE with ECW Replacement NXT
By Ric Stevens
PW News Now Staff Writer
February 3, 2010

WWE announced Tuesday night that they would be shutting down the ECW brand in three weeks in order to debut a revolutionary new show on Syfy.

The company trademarked “NXT” recently and promises that the show will be the “next evolution” of pro wrestling.

The problem for WWE is that NXT Wrestling already exists.

PWNN reader Steve Wilson sent in the following:

Here’s a “Did you know” fact for the WWE.

There is already a NXT wrestling company, which also stands for NXT Generation.

Their website can be viewed via http://www.nxtwrestling.com

According to their site they have been around since 2008. The indy fed is based in Rutherglen, Scotland. They have their own wrestling school, produce DVD’s and run shows on a fairly regular basis. The next show is scheduled to be this Saturday February 6th.

Apparently someone at the WWE didn't do their homework (or didn't care)
Scotland. Don't rule out a connection the proximity to Loch Ness. I have a feeling the pandas are going to get involved before this is all over. Vince better prepare for invasion, or at least planned colonization.

The Truth Is Out There

Wow I was expecting a more generic name like the ppvs. I hope they retire the ECW title.

P.S. Juan you fool they did change the name artard :foc:

'The problem for WWE is that NXT Wrestling already exists.'

Seriously, is that likely to be a problem? I think not. Especially if they were able to trademark.

The Truth Is Out There

Couple of my mates wrestle there. Before it was NXT/SWA etc it was BCW, which was where Drew trained. Just a shame 90% of the guys there are absolute spastics!

Supreme Olajuwon 02-03-2010 08:52 AM

Looks like the RAND Corporation and the reverse vampires are in cahoots again.

Jeritron 02-03-2010 08:54 AM

We're through the looking glass here people

Anybody Thrilla 02-03-2010 09:39 AM

NXT... world order

Sycophant 02-03-2010 10:59 AM

Not to mention that NXT or "next generation" makes absolutely no sense in some aspects. I mean...are Christian and Regal not current generation...or past (in Regal's case?) It is not like these guys are there to grow and then graduate up to RAW or Smackdown. They are just stuck there because creative has nothing better to do with them.

Maybe they'll move everyone off who's been around a while.

At this point Christian's a veteran. And that makes me feel old since I remember his debut. :-\

Mr. Nerfect 02-03-2010 11:28 AM

Maybe they should just call it "WWE Evolution." No? Cool.

Anybody Thrilla 02-03-2010 11:33 AM

I know some of you really want to hate this, but why can't we just let it debut before we start shitting on it?

Anybody Thrilla 02-03-2010 11:33 AM

Maybe Bryan Danielson will be on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as do I sir, LOL @ The Brood. Kind of funny how Gangrel was the leader of that group and now he is the only one that is not with the company. Also, the only one to never hold a heavyweight title.

Also funny how Edge lost the "Blade/Vampire Hunter" gimmick, but kept the trench coat...

Anybody Thrilla 02-03-2010 12:41 PM

I like when wrestlers incorporate stuff from their old gimmicks into their current gimmicks (like the trench coat). They're sort of paying homage to themselves.

VINTAGE EDGE

Sycophant 02-03-2010 12:43 PM

Like HHH dropping the "blue blood" gimmick, but keeping the nose.

I'm telling you...the nose plays

Anybody Thrilla 02-03-2010 12:48 PM

Well, he does still call his finisher The Pedigree.

Sixx 02-03-2010 12:50 PM

They never invite Triple H to coke parties.

Sycophant 02-03-2010 12:53 PM

Yea, Steph had to have an episiotomy so they could get the baby's nose out...

And I almost forgot...

GD 02-03-2010 03:52 PM

Fuck you Juan!

Juan 02-03-2010 04:40 PM

That was 3 months ago, you faggot.

Tb1 02-03-2010 05:02 PM

Another successful outing from Guru Dave.

Droford 02-03-2010 05:12 PM

just change the N from Next to New like they used to call the mid 90's roster.

I remembered. And the word is "Gay" buddy ;)

thedamndest 02-03-2010 05:27 PM

It's going to be really hard to keep track of the belt when they keep referring to the champion as the "Next Champion."

Tb1 02-03-2010 05:36 PM

Time to retire that belt, anyway.

Droford 02-03-2010 06:33 PM

They could have always gone with Next-GenerationX

NX!

Jordan 02-03-2010 11:00 PM

Well I dig the name, I think it's better than anything I thought of so I am down with it tell they change my mind otherwise. I just hope it changes a little bit from ECW, something different. I don't even mind a sc-fi influence if it isn't totally retarded.

Cuzziebro 02-04-2010 08:25 AM

As long as the product itself stays the same, as in the amazing matches and feuds that are going on, then I really don't care what they call the 'brand'.

sa 02-04-2010 05:37 PM

it is a worst name then nwa

Juan 02-16-2010 06:13 AM

NXT Wrestling overseas posted the following on their website regarding WWE's new show using the NXT name:

"WWE was proactive in working with us to come to mutually agreeable terms on the release of the NXT trademark once it learned of the potential conflict. The timing was right for us as we were planning on renaming the NXT brand to SWA:Source to be closer aligned with the SWA parent brand."
