Is "WHAT?" annoying to you?
 

Ive noticed it over the past but during tonights Taker/HBK segment it really became an annoying buzz kill. Does anyone else find it annoying now?

Nothing ruins hbk/taker for me.

I am going to say yes, but only because it happened during HBK/Taker tonight. If it didn't happen I would say no.

I just don't like when it happens during big moments. I don't think fans realize the moment sometimes.

You have only the Smarks to blame for the "What" chants. So yea, blame Xero and everyone else on this forum.

It's still a good counter-heel crowd response, but like most, I wish fans would cut it out during the more epic moments.

I think that the fans should save it for the promos that they find annoying. I.e. it should be used to notify Vinny Mac that we don't give a crap about a certain guy.

Like if Chris Masters, for example, cut a promo.. after every line "WHAT?" "WHAT?" "WHAT?"..

I still love Taker's response to the what chants from years ago... say what if you sleep with your sister -- and the whole crowd still did it. :lol:

Yeah, Undertaker handled that as well as anyone has. I still miss the American Badass, if only because it gave us more insight into Mark Calloway (who had managed to remain largely an enigma over the years)

It's wrestler's fault for not changing the rhythm of their speach. It's really easy to get the crowd to stop doing it. Just talk without pauses for say, 2 or 3 sentances and the crowd gets bored and confused.

I think i remember reading years back that some wrestlers were pissed at him for starting that after the crowd started parroting it whenever anyone opened their mouth.

Then again wrestlers promos usually do sound like its someone mentally retarded talking

Exactly, CM Punk doesn't really get the 'what' chants because he can manage to string two sentences together without a pause.

CM Punk doesn't get the "what" chants because he is CM Punk.

What's worse is that it's finally subsiding and only showing up in really hot crowds. When Austin hosts RAW we're looking at a few months of Whats in every fucking arena again.

I have to say, I didn't mind it when Austin did his comical promos with it (drinks he went through at the bar etc) or when it was a promo with a wrestler that played off it (Angle, or the above mentioned Taker)

But it's when the chant really doesn't belong there it bugs me. Like the example of Taker/ HBK from Raw. The crowd should have been so into that moment, because of the build that has gone into it, yet after every serious and 'emotional' line that Shawn said we got 'WHAT?'.

So yeah, I'm sick of it now.

What's worse is that when he does show up, he doesn't even play up the 'What' thing any more. And half the crowd probably weren't watching when he started the damn thing. I mean that was 2001. Half of the 'WWE Universe' were around 3 years old then.

He doesn't play it up but it still gets drilled out by the fans.

I also enjoyed when Vince was getting the "What" out of the crowd and he said something like "2001 called. They want their What back."
