Nov 14 - Hideki Matsui and the Yankees will likely settle on a four-year deal worth at least $48 million that could include a fifth-year option, the New York Daily News reports. Matsui's agent, Arn Tellem, spoke with GM Brian Cashman on Sunday and is likely to meet with him on Monday.
Matsui could become a free agent if a deal isn't struck before midnight Tuesday.

The Mets are prepared to guarantee the 34-year-old left-handed closer $30 million over three years, an offer that could come as soon as Monday.

If the Dodgers fail to land Epstein, the job likely will go either to San Francisco assistant GM Ned Colletti or Dodgers assistant GM Kim Ng, the newspaper reports.

Nov 14 - The Cubs have advised injury-plagued infielder Nomar Garciaparra to shop around, The Chicago Tribune reports. GM Jim Hendry Hendry said Garciaparra "is in a situation where he should go out and find if there is a better fit. With our situation at third, he's not going to play there, [though] he did fine when he got over there."
The Cubs are pursuing free-agent shortstop Rafael Furcal.
