Peyton Manning has better statistics than Bart Starr, but does that necessarily make him the better quarterback?

I'm not saying that Brady is better than Manning or if Manning is better than Brady, but with statistics you could probably find ways to compare Aaron Brooks and Brett Favre. The last time I checked, football was a team sport, not a contest to see which individual puts up better numbers.
