You don't make trades like that. Boston ownership had a personal vendetta against Thornton, claiming he wasn't a big money guy or a clutch guy, or whatever. This stemmed partly from his lack of contribution in the 2004 playoffs (during which he was playing with a serious shoulder injury.) Again, this is not a trade that would normally be made. It was a personal issue between management and the player in question. Just awful.
