Hi everyone i am in europe but i can't work out how to conect this shit!

i have the cat5 and my broadband...
i connect the cat5 to the back of my ps2(slimline)
then i put the other end it the ethernet port at the back of my modem.(NTL)
where now? nothing works
i'm prety sure i did sumin wrong with the account stuff...
any1 got a slimline and ntl broadband that has there stuff working?
i got everything set to auto...
