Can you force an application to run in windowed mode?

Yeah I've been feeling mad retro lately, been playing some Heroes of Might & Magic 3, hawt game. Anywho, the problem I have is that when I play games on my PC I'm crazy distracted and love playing in windowed mode. This may be in part thanks to WoW's slower-paced nature where I'd be raiding and talking on MSN, browsing the net, etc at the same time. Regardless, I'm just wondering if there's a way to force an older full-screen app like HoMM3 to run in windowed mode? I tried doing the ol' alt+enter while the game was open, to no avail. Couldn't find anything in the properties to do it... is there any type of string you can add to the target filename to make it run windowed? thx
