I knew the King of the Ring technically dated back past Bret Hart winning in 1993, but wow, I didn't realise how many great guys had won it. Just to clarify, didn't Haku win something which allowed him to call himself "King Haku"? Was this a King of the Ring tourney? 1992?
The WWE should really recognise their past Kings past Bret Hart's second win. It would only take a bit of retconning next year.
By the way, I love the way this tourney has main event guys featured. It's been four years since Brock Lesnar one. The event doesn't have as much steam over those years. Give it to Paul London or Brian Kendrick this year and it means nothing. As far as I'm concerned, this is a re-establishment year for the King of the Ring. I also wouldn't mind it if they had three participants in every final eight former World Champions.
I still think Chris Benoit should win this year. Kurt Angle loses his rematch to Rey Mysterio, there's no real point in doing another one. He also doesn't need a KOR win at this stage. Booker T is a solid competitor, and he would be able to do heaps with it, but a face should take it this year. That also rules out Mark Henry & Finlay. Bobby Lashley winning seems to Brock Lesnar-esque.
The 2006 King of the Ring Finals should really be Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit, in my opinion. A classic wrestling match at The Great American Bash. Benoit wins and becomes 2006 King of the Ring.
