I'm confusing myself here.
In Euro 2004 (The 2-2 debacle, circa 2004), Sweden, Denmark and Italy were all tied on 5 points at the top of their group, having all beaten Bulgaria and drawn with the other 2 teams. Sweden and Denmark went through.
I remember there being something about a 'mini-group' being done, with just the 3 teams equal on points, with the same goal difference and head-to-head (having drawn each other, it was impossible not to), where Sweden and Denmark went through for scoring the highest amount of goals.
The point was made that Italy could have beaten Bulgaria 83-0 and not gone through because goal diff didn't matter because of the mini-table. So are they doing the same thing again for the world cup or what?
Troy is confused.
