Foobar2000 is a media player that supports nearly all file types, customizable keyboard hotkeys, instant loading, and some of the most advanced features you will find in any media player. It also includes a converter that allows you to convert nearly all choices. At only 4.27MB it's at least worth a look but be warned that it can all be very overwhelming at first.

For a quick rundown on media players:
Best GUI & Interface: Windows Media Player 11
Best iPod support: iTunes
Best user control: Foobar2000
