First off, are they legit DVDs? Not burned ones?

If so, it may be a codec problem, although I'm skeptical to even suggest that. Try downloading VLC and see if sound starts. If so, it's a codec problem.

I kind of saved this for last because it's an obvious problem but is your mute on?
