Personally I love 6 more than 7 but that's just because I have an unhealthy obsession with it

7 is just so amazing because at the time it came out it just totally blew EVERYTHING else out of the water. It was insanely long, had a shitload of extra stuff to do that had nothing to do with the main storyline, the graphics were very nice (the first 3D FF game), and everything was just so in-depth. I remember when PSX first came out, FF7 was *the* game to have. The cinematics and everything were nice too. The game was just very polished, and it was the first FF game to come out in a while, so it was naturally quite hyped.

I guess since so many people liked it at the start, they are just very biased towards it even to this day. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
