Here's why there were no lawsuits:

When Bret knocked out Vince, Shane jumped on Bret and Davey Boy Smith attacked Shane to defend Bret. Davey busted his knee in the process and that could have been another lawsuit.

Also, Vince breached Bret's contract by not allowing him his 30 day creative control and would have had to pay out nearly his entire 20 year contract if it went to court.

So basically it would have led to lawsuit after lawsuit after counter lawsuit after counter lawsuit, etc, etc. Better off just carrying on with everything the way it went down.
